Lecturer in Translation Studies with a Focus on Interpreting

The Department of Swedish and Multilingualism at Stockholm University is seeking a lecturer. The Department conducts research and education in Swedish and Nordic languages, Swedish as a second language, bilingualism, as well as interpreting and translation. The undergraduate program encompasses one of the largest educational assignments at the Faculty of Humanities. The activities include several teacher training programs as well as education in Swedish for international students and Tisus. The Institute for Interpreting and Translation (TÖI) at Stockholm University offers training in public sector interpreting, conference interpreting, sign language interpreting, and translation. We are now looking for a lecturer in interpreting for a permanent position.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach and assess primarily in practical courses in interpreting in spoken languages, but will also work with course leadership and course development. Networking and professional development are integral parts of the position. Administrative tasks and management responsibilities may also be included.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the position, a relevant degree from higher education or equivalent competence, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skills, are required. The candidate must be an authorized interpreter with experience in public sector interpreting across all areas of society, with very good knowledge of Swedish and at least one other interpreting language.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the applicant to have the ability to collaborate and suitability to fulfill the job responsibilities.

Assessment Criteria

Great emphasis will be placed on the applicant's pedagogical skills and ability to collaborate with teaching colleagues, technical and administrative staff, and researchers. A degree in translation studies, special competence as a legal interpreter, experience in teaching interpreting at the university level, as well as practical course administration and course leadership are meritorious.

Meritorious is also higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits. An applicant lacking such training must complete it within the first two years of employment.
