Your Mission

In the role of special education teacher, you will teach students with autism and intellectual disabilities who are studying subjects between grades 7-9. The students share facilities and collaborate with the high school's individual program. You will teach all subject areas, in smaller groups and individually. In close collaboration with colleagues, you will have a shared responsibility for the students' entire school day, which includes both teaching and breaks, lunch, and transitions.

Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the teaching based on the curriculum to achieve maximum development for the students. You follow the curriculum and adapt the teaching based on the students' needs, interests, and conditions. You monitor, assess, and document students' knowledge development. You establish and follow up on action plans and document students' needs for special support. You collaborate regarding the students' needs with other stakeholders, both within and outside the school. The role includes mentorship, development conversations, and close contact with guardians. As a special education teacher, you are the team leader for a larger number of teaching assistants whom you also guide in daily pedagogical work. You are responsible for creating trusting relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. Additionally, you participate regularly in pedagogical conferences, team meetings, and staff meetings.

You are part of a team for middle school and high school. You work in a team and have close collaboration with teaching assistants, school leaders, and other special education teachers. You meet regularly and collaborate regarding students, planning, assessment, pedagogical development work, and systematic quality work.

Your Experience

For this position, you are required to have:

  • preschool teacher certification and/or teacher certification
  • special education degree with a specialization in intellectual disabilities
  • experience teaching students on the autism spectrum studying subjects within the adapted school
  • experience working with students with a combination of various NPF diagnoses
  • experience using sign communication and/or other alternative communication methods as support, such as visual support communication and TAKK
  • knowledge of and experience working with clear pedagogical methods
  • broad theoretical knowledge of autism and experience applying theory in practice
  • good digital competence with experience using digital pedagogical tools
  • good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both spoken and written

It is an advantage if you also have:

  • experience working as a special education teacher and/or teacher within adapted primary and secondary school
  • experience working in primary school
  • experience in pedagogical development work and systematic quality work
  • relevant education or courses within the autism spectrum
