Bjurslättsskolan is located in Kvillebäcken, near Wieselgrensplatsen in central Hisingen, in an expansive area where old meets new, creating a mixed socio-economic environment around the school.

The school has approximately 600 students and offers preschool class, grades 1-6 in primary school, grades 1-6 in adapted primary school, and after-school care.

The school library's activities at Bjurslättsskolan are an established part of the students' reading development, including assessments with Lexplore. We are looking for a librarian who wants to create and establish a program in good collaboration with teachers and other school staff.

Responsibilities

As a librarian, you will be responsible for the school library room and work to ensure that the library becomes a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Participating in the assessment of students' reading abilities and developing strategies to increase their knowledge and interest in reading.
• Working to strengthen students' reading engagement and reading skills through reading promotion and language development methods and activities, both independently and in collaboration with school staff.
• Developing forms for and enhancing the work to strengthen students' media and information literacy and digital competence.
• Planning and conducting instruction and guiding students both in the library and in classrooms.
• Ensuring that the school library is an active part of the school's value-based work and democratic mission.
• Managing media planning and purchases, circulation, and book handling.
• Conducting book discussions and working in classes as well as library breaks for students at the school.

Along with school librarians from other primary schools in the city, you will be part of the primary school administration's librarian network for collegial learning. You are expected to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at enhancing library services.

City of Gothenburg Library Plan 2024-2028

We work according to the City of Gothenburg's library plan 2024-2028, aiming for the school library to have a clear pedagogical function whose primary task is to collaborate with educators to promote students' reading and media and information literacy, as well as to create a school library for all. The focus of the library's activities is to increase students' achievement, well-being, and identity formation by integrating the library into teaching.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university degree in library and information science or equivalent higher education that the employer deems relevant. You should have high digital competence relevant to the tasks and a strong interest in children's and youth literature.

To fit this role, you need to have a strong commitment to children and young people's learning. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into effective library practice.

You create conditions for learning to take place and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You also take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether working alone or with others.
