Archivist at the National Archives in Gothenburg
Are you interested in helping our clients and visitors access the exciting information stored by the National Archives? Are you self-driven and good at collaborating? Then you should work with us!
We offer a varied job and are currently in a development phase where we are reviewing our work methods. As an archivist with us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to this development.
Job Responsibilities
The National Archives in Gothenburg is part of the Gothenburg-Täby Unit, Department of Archival Activities. The ongoing operations in Gothenburg are divided into two sections, one of which is the public services section, where the position is located. The main areas of activity for the section are to provide service to those who request access to or inquire about the documents held in the archives. This is where you will primarily contribute by researching information, answering inquiries, and serving in the reading room. Some documents may contain information subject to confidentiality and therefore need to be assessed before disclosure. Other tasks within the section and unit may occur.
The work is carried out in close collaboration with other colleagues in the unit as well as with other colleagues within the agency and external contacts.
The National Archives is centrally located in Gothenburg, near Götaplatsen and various cultural institutions. We also have two depots in Hisingen. We are preparing to consolidate operations in new, shared premises in Västra Frölunda. Moving preparations are therefore a significant part of everyday life. It may also be relevant for you to contribute to this work.
Work during scheduled evening hours may occur.
You should have:
- A bachelor's degree with at least 60 credits in archival and information science
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and have good knowledge of English
It is advantageous if you have:
- Subjects such as history, administrative history, and cultural studies in your education
- Experience in case management (including digital case management) in public administration
- Experience in responding to inquiries in archival material as well as experience in serving in reading rooms and confidentiality assessments
- Experience working at an archival institution primarily but otherwise at another government agency.
- Familiarity with and experience of the National Archives' archival inventory system Arkis/NAD
Personal Qualities:
You are meticulous in your work and service-, result-, and goal-oriented. You take personal responsibility for completing your tasks. You are good at collaborating. The tasks require endurance as well as the ability to prioritize, plan, and structure. You should be able to adapt to new and changed tasks and be unpretentious.
The tasks involve many contacts with the public and other staff within the National Archives, which is why we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities and suitability.
