Librarian Focused on Promoting Reading for Children and Youth

Are you driven by working to promote reading for children and young people and want to help more discover the library and its possibilities? Then you might be the one we are looking for! We are seeking someone who wants to be part of developing the libraries in Vara as inspiring meeting places for people of all ages, with a particular focus on children and youth.

Your Role

Your main tasks will focus on reading promotion activities for the target group of children and youth of school age and above. The assignment includes inspiring through program activities, networks, and outreach work. Your role also includes marketing related to program activities, primarily via social media, web publishing, and producing printed materials. Some additional administration and working at the library's information desk are also included in the position. You will be responsible for purchasing and managing media for the relevant target group, ensuring a relevant and current selection. Additionally, you will be part of the library's program group and assist in planning, marketing, and implementing program activities primarily for children and youth, but also for other target groups as needed.

Your Knowledge and Experience

We are looking for someone with a university degree, a librarian qualification, or other education that we consider equivalent. Previous experience in similar work is an advantage.

We place great value on personal qualities such as commitment, creativity, accuracy, and organizational skills. We want you to put the visitor at the center and have good literary knowledge that enables you to inspire others to read.

You are a flexible person who has the ability to see opportunities. Furthermore, you take initiative and start activities to achieve results. As a person, you are a team player with good collaboration skills.

Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, is a prerequisite, and knowledge of other languages is an advantage. Digital competence and experience working with communication and marketing in digital environments are also important.

Your Future Workplace

There are three public libraries in Vara municipality; the main library in Vara and open branches in Kvänum and Vedum, which are also integrated school libraries.

The municipality is running the Reading Olympics, a development project aimed at increasing interest in reading among children and youth. All activities within the Education Administration are active in this work, and the library is an important part of it.

You will primarily work at the main library in Vara and in outreach activities, but work at the branches may occur.
