to apply for the job
Make a difference. Every day.
Do you want to be part of an engaged and positive team? Are you interested in neurosurgery and enjoy working both independently and in a team? Do you want to develop both in your profession and as a person? Don’t hesitate to apply for the position of occupational therapist in neurosurgery in Lund.
The neurosurgery department in Lund is part of the area of operations (VO) neurosurgery and pain rehabilitation at Skåne University Hospital (Sus). We are one of seven neurosurgical units in Sweden, providing highly specialized care to the Southern healthcare region. We care for patients with injuries and diseases of the central nervous system. Within the area of operations, we provide intensive, intermediate pre- and postoperative care, as well as surgical care and outpatient services. We work health-promoting with the patient at the center. All rehabilitation and supportive measures are based on the patient’s own conditions and goals. We strive for the individual to take responsibility for achieving change and improvement in their rehabilitation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are now looking for an occupational therapist who finds neurosurgery interesting and wants to work with these patients. As an occupational therapist, you will work on the ward, in the neuro-intensive care unit, and with outpatient work, primarily with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Working hours are scheduled during the day, Monday to Friday, with occasional shifts during holidays.
On the ward, standard occupational therapy work is performed, where tasks include assessment of activity ability, hand function, cognition, and need for assistive devices during and after hospital care, as well as training with patients. We are a surgical unit, and our lengths of stay are relatively short, which is why initiating rehabilitation measures is often the norm. You will map the patient’s needs in My Plans before discharge. The work is patient-centered and rehabilitation-oriented. You will have close collaboration with the unit’s physiotherapists. In intensive care, you will work with, for example, early contracture prophylaxis and sensory stimulation. Patients with spinal cord injuries may need to have hand orthoses fitted and assistance with activity schedules.
In outpatient care, preoperative assessments and postoperative follow-ups are conducted for patients who are candidates for treatment with DBS or Focused Ultrasound (FUS). The patient categories for these treatments are primarily Essential Tremor and Dystonia, but also Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Tourette syndrome are present. FUS is currently performed in Umeå, but assessments for this treatment are conducted at the neurosurgery department in Lund. As an occupational therapist, you will be part of the DBS team, which is interdisciplinary. Assessments and follow-ups are often performed together with the team’s physiotherapist and nurse.
We strive to constantly improve, and we value initiative and innovation. With us, there is an opportunity to develop within, for example, Neurosurgery. With a generous attitude towards further education related to job duties, we encourage active learning over time. This advertisement refers to a permanent position.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for you who are a licensed occupational therapist with the authority to practice within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish at least corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s level scale are a requirement. Basic computer skills and experience with the Melior journal system are desirable.
The work is both team-based and independent, which requires you to have good collaboration skills as well as the ability to structure and plan your days. We also see that you are both responsible and flexible and can quickly adapt to changing circumstances. Creativity and initiative are an asset as rehabilitation must occur according to the patient’s needs and situation. We place great importance on personal suitability.
In this recruitment, continuous selection is applied. Welcome with your application!
