Job Responsibilities

The Environmental Coordinator has a broad role with varying tasks. As a temporary Environmental Coordinator, you will work with the municipality's strategic waste and sanitation efforts. Additionally, the position includes assisting the municipal ecologist and environmental and climate strategist with the follow-up of other environmental work.

You will play a key role in the municipality's strategic sanitation and waste work. This includes coordination and contact with SRV Recycling AB and surrounding municipalities regarding sanitation and waste issues, as well as handling citizen proposals and supporting the municipality's own operations. In 2026, the sanitation regulations will be updated together with other Södertörn municipalities. As a temporary Environmental Coordinator, you will continue the work of developing sustainable and effective sorting solutions together with the municipality's various operations.

The position also includes assisting in the municipality's environmental work in close collaboration with the municipal ecologist and environmental and climate strategist. Within the framework of the position, you will have the opportunity to work with environmental issues such as MKN in planning processes and early planning stages. The position will provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into and experience of complex work alongside various specialist competencies within community planning and municipal administration.

About the Workplace

The Community Building Administration works to create and develop Nynäshamn's physical environment. Our goal is to create a sustainable, vibrant, and attractive municipality that meets the needs of residents. We work with the qualities and opportunities of both small towns and rural areas as well as the archipelago.

The Strategic Planning Department works in early stages to ensure sustainability and feasibility, both in the municipality's urban development projects and in individual cases. We support the entire municipality and manage knowledge and experience. The department contributes to strengthening Nynäshamn's role in the region. We are responsible for central governing documents within the community building area and monitor the municipality's values: nature, water, cultural heritage, and rural areas. We also work with environmental monitoring (water and air quality), strategic waste issues, growth, and well-designed living environments, and provide the municipality with geodata and measurement services.

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in the role, you have:

• ongoing or completed higher education with a focus on the environmental field or equivalent knowledge
• a strong interest in the environment, sustainability, and waste issues as well as community planning.

It is an advantage if you have:

• previous engagement in environmental, sanitation, or waste issues
• experience from a politically governed organization.

To thrive in the role, you need to have good analytical skills, a willingness to learn, and a structured way of working. You will work closely with strategists and specialists, which makes it important to be receptive while also driving the work forward on your own. Coordination is a central part of the assignment, so you need to be communicative and pedagogical in your way of working. To succeed in the role, you find it easy to make contacts and collaborate. You have a desire to develop and contribute to development, preferably combined with a broad interest in the many perspectives of community development.
