Do you want to contribute to improving people's health?

We are a highly interdisciplinary research group at Karolinska Institutet that combines groundbreaking experimental biology with advanced methods in single-cell analysis, lineage tracing, and computational approaches to address clinically relevant questions in cancer and drug development.

Our work is conducted in close collaboration with national and international partners and in active interaction with clinical collaborators, core functions, and industry partners.

We are looking for a Senior Lab Manager

We are seeking a senior lab manager who wants to be a long-term key person in this environment, with a role that combines responsibility for laboratory operations and safety with active scientific engagement, such as contributions to research projects, method development, and recruitment-related activities. You will work closely with the principal investigator (PI) to shape the scientific direction and strategic planning, with significant influence over how the laboratory grows and develops over time.

The Research Group

As a senior lab manager, you will be a central member of our research group (https://ki.se/forskning/forskningsomraden-centrum-och-natverk/forskargrupper/precisionsstrategier-for-att-overkomma-tumorheterogenitet-i-barncancer-kasper-karlssons-forskargrupp). Our group focuses on finding new drugs and treatments for cancer patients, particularly focusing on overcoming tumor heterogeneity. We use advanced tools such as state-of-the-art organoid technologies, high-throughput drug screening, cell barcoding, and single-cell sequencing.

The group is located at SciLifeLab (https://www.scilifelab.se/pa-svenska/), which provides access to several state-of-the-art facilities and a research community striving to improve technologies in life sciences. We are also part of Karolinska Institutet (https://ki.se/onkpat), which conducts fundamental, translational, and clinical cancer research.

Your Role

You will work closely with the PI, PhD students, postdocs, and collaborators to support a well-functioning and collaborative laboratory environment. The role includes responsibility for laboratory management, safety, and administrative tasks, along with extensive practical experimental work such as cell culture, molecular biology, method development, and support for ongoing research. The senior lab manager is expected to be actively engaged in the group's scientific work and contribute practically at the bench. We are looking for a highly committed, structured, flexible, and curious team player who enjoys combining operational responsibility with experimental work.

Who are you?

We are looking for a competent, organized, and committed person who wants to take on the role of senior lab manager in our research group. The position encompasses a broad area of responsibility that includes laboratory management, safety, and practical experimental work, along with active participation in scientific discussions and the development of experimental strategies. The role is well-suited for someone who values accountability, collaboration, and long-term commitment, and who is motivated to contribute both to the daily operations and to the strategic development of a research environment.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., biology, biomedicine, molecular biology, bioengineering, or related life sciences)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Practical experience in experimental laboratory work (e.g., cell culture, molecular biology, or similar methods; various experimental profiles may be considered)
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute constructively to scientific discussions, experimental planning, and a collaborative work environment
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Merits (not required):

  • Experience in laboratory administration, including orders, invoice management, documentation, and responsibility for laboratory safety
  • Experience in cancer research or preclinical cancer models
  • Experience with single-cell methods, lineage tracing, or related technologies
  • Experience in method or workflow development
  • Experience contributing to experimental strategy, study design, or long-term planning in a research environment
  • Experience supporting or coordinating multiple research projects or teams
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or training students or staff
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary, international, or collaborative research environments
