Postdoctoral Researcher in Protein Design
The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunobiology.
The research environment is characterized by modern and advanced methodologies and has a strong international profile. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, with over 30 research groups and approximately 200 employees, of which about 60 are doctoral students. More information about us can be found at: https://www.su.se/mbw (https://www.su.se/mbw).
Project Description
The position will be linked to the laboratory-based part of protein design. This includes evaluating the properties of designed proteins and other biomolecules that interact with proteins. These proteins may, for example, be DNA-binding, bind to other proteins, or have catalytic abilities. There will be a strong focus on binding and application of laboratory techniques to evaluate interactions with proteins using techniques such as SPR. Theoretical knowledge of protein biophysics and modern computational methods is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Independently evaluate protein interactions using affinity methods such as SPR.
- Design laboratory workflows for efficient analysis of chemical aspects of proteins and other biomolecules.
- Use machine learning tools for protein design and assess generated designs.
- Large-scale data analysis.
- Expression and purification of designed protein products in various cell systems, primarily bacterial cells.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a relevant PhD degree is required. The degree must be obtained no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment Criteria
It is advantageous if the PhD degree or equivalent has been obtained no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, an earlier obtained degree may also be considered advantageous. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments for the subject area.
In the appointment, particular importance will be attached to scientific competence, such as:
- Surface Plasmon Resonance / other affinity methods
- Production and purification of proteins
- Protein design
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Cell culture
About the Position
The position is full-time and is permanent, but for at least two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date by agreement.
