Postdoctoral Researcher in High Resolution Mass Spectrometry

The Department of Environmental Science (ACES) is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science.

The department consists of four units with over 170 employees including researchers, teachers, PhD students, and technical/administrative staff from more than 30 different countries. Research and teaching are conducted in environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, atmospheric science, and biogeochemistry. As a staff member at the Department of Environmental Science, you will be part of a dynamic environment with world-class research and a strong international profile. Environmental science addresses urgent global challenges aimed at solving real problems, a fact that underscores the importance of this project. More information about us can be found at: https://www.su.se/institutionen-for-miljovetenskap/ (https://www.su.se/institutionen-for-miljovetenskap/).

Project Description

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) and the exploration of non-targeted mass spectrometry data. The position will contribute to projects where HRMS-based DNA and RNA adductomics in human and wildlife samples are profiled as a tool for exposure diagnostics and to discover new biomarkers for negative biological effects (e.g., reproductive anomalies and mental health issues).

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for HRMS analysis of adducts, with a particular focus on chemical modifications to DNA and RNA. This includes performing HRMS/MS experiments on LC-Orbitrap and associated data processing for adductomics. Method optimization as needed and application of adductomics technology in samples from humans and wildlife will be part of the research activities. Other tasks include presenting research results at conferences, publishing, and communication.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, a PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a relevant PhD is required. The degree must be obtained no later than when the employment decision is made.

Assessment Criteria

It is advantageous if the PhD or equivalent has been obtained no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, an earlier obtained degree may also be considered advantageous. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions, service in total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments in the subject area.

In the recruitment process, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence and your ability to successfully complete the project. Your PhD should be in analytical chemistry or a closely related field to the project. Knowledge of HRMS-based -omics techniques and data analysis is advantageous. The candidate should have high proficiency in written and spoken English and the ability to work in a team.

About the Employment

The position is full-time and is permanent, but for at least two years and at most three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date is 2026-03-02 or by agreement.
