Special Educator with Coordinator Role in Special Educational Support

Your Responsibilities

The introductory program is aimed at students who are not eligible for high school; here, students study individually alternative or language introduction. Our students have a background of problematic school situations in primary school, they may be newly arrived and have a great need for support in both their education and daily life. Everyone studies primary school subjects, and the programs are adapted to each student's conditions and needs. The work in the introductory programs is based on close collaboration between teachers, student health staff, and leisure leaders. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate and exchange experiences with special educators in other operations.

The introductory programs at Berzeliusskolan are now looking for a special educator with a role as coordinator for special educational support (SENCO). As our operations grow and receive a changed mandate, we are facing a journey of change, where you will have the opportunity to help drive the change forward. The position involves a broad assignment with many collaborations and contact points. The role requires that you are comfortable in a dynamic environment where work rarely follows fixed frameworks, where you move between different locations and contexts. The assignment also includes being involved in professional development and keeping up with current theory and research and spreading it to colleagues at the school/schools.

Your Workplace

Berzeliusskolan is a centrally located school in Linköping with modern facilities. Here you will find the upper secondary school, high school, and adapted high school. The high school includes science and technology programs as well as the introductory program focusing on language introduction and individual alternatives. There are approximately 1900 students, of which over 1000 are in high school, and about 330 staff at the school. As the introductory program grows, this role will work across our operations, which are distributed across Berzeliusskolan and two other locations within walking distance.

This means we have clear routines, action plans, and a well-developed student health service to create a safe environment for students and staff. Our goal is for Berzeliusskolan to be the best choice for students' learning and development.

Who We Are Looking For

It is a requirement that you have a teaching license with authorization to teach grades 7-9. First and foremost, we are looking for someone who has completed training as a special educator. Alternatively, you may be in training to become a special educator or be an educated special teacher. Since the position involves a lot of communication and documentation, it is a requirement that you have good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish.

It is also a requirement that you have previous work experience from the school sector and are well acquainted with the school curriculum. It is an advantage if you have experience working with special educational support, students with problematic school situations, or students with other needs for special support. It is also an advantage if you have experience in implementing a change journey or have experience with similar tasks.

You have a developed ability to collaborate and actively participate in all types of meeting constellations you are part of. You have a professional approach in meetings with students, colleagues, and guardians. Your good insight into people's different conditions allows you to skillfully adapt your way of conveying messages depending on the situation and the person you meet.

We are looking for someone who can communicate clearly and well-formulated, ensuring that messages get through and that expectations are communicated and followed up with relevant parties in the collaboration. In your coordinating role, you lead, motivate, and ensure that everyone involved in the student health team has the conditions to effectively reach common goals. You are comfortable making quick decisions when needed and acting on them. The work requires your ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as well as your ability to plan and drive your own and the student health team's joint work effectively.
