Teach Industrial Technology with a Focus on Welding
The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will be an important part of our selection work.
We are now looking for someone who wants to teach industrial technology with a focus on welding. With us, you will help build a completely new welding program from the ground up.
We create a modern industrial environment where students are prepared for the future job market. Together with engaged colleagues and present management, you will shape an education that makes a difference for both participants and their future employers.
Your Responsibilities
You will be part of a team that starts a new welding program from scratch. Therefore, the work involves both teaching and active participation in planning and building the program. This includes taking responsibility for facilities, equipment, and teaching materials, as well as contributing to the development of the program's content and structure. You will also be responsible for a safe and well-functioning workshop environment where students can grow and succeed.
Once the program is up and running, your main task will be to plan, execute, and follow up on teaching in both theoretical and practical elements – with a focus on welding technology. You will also follow up and collaborate with APL placements (workplace-based learning), which involves mentoring students in contact with the labor market.
The work is carried out in close collaboration with colleagues in the work team and includes participation in various team meetings, APT, quality days, and other operational forums. You are expected to take responsibility for your work environment and contribute to a well-functioning and safe workshop environment.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone with completed welding training or relevant professional experience in welding. You have good knowledge of the welding techniques MMA, MIG/MAG, and TIG, as well as experience in reading drawings, sheet metal processing, and ensuring a safe working environment in workshops. It is also a plus if you have valid welding qualifications according to SS-EN ISO 9606, experience in gas welding, and documented teaching experience in the industrial sector, but this is not a requirement. If you have IWS certification, that is also a plus.
We would prefer that you have a vocational teacher's degree. If you do not have it, there is an opportunity to start the training within the framework of the position – with the requirement that you obtain the degree within five years from the start of employment. Since you will be visiting companies and your students at their APL placements, you need to have a B driver's license.
You are self-driven, structured, and take initiative. You communicate and collaborate easily with others and approach both students and colleagues with attentiveness and respect. You are confident and demonstrate pedagogical understanding, adapting your teaching to meet the needs of different students, meeting them where they are – with both patience and engagement.
We Offer
With us, you will have freedom under responsibility in a vocational teacher role where you have a great opportunity to influence and shape your work. You will be involved from the beginning – in a new initiative where we together build an education that prepares future welders for the job market.
We will work in new, fresh facilities with good access to equipment, and you will be part of a professional, supportive, and solution-focused team. We are a workgroup with great commitment, valuing humor, humility, and quality. Here we listen to each other, share knowledge, and help each other. If you want to work in an environment where we take our mission seriously – but also have a good sense of humor – then you will thrive with us.
The Adult Education Center (VUC) is responsible for Västerås city's adult education and offers training in various fields and professions, always focusing on quality, the needs of the labor market, and individuals' opportunities to grow. Here, people of different ages and backgrounds meet, with the common goal of taking the next step in their careers. VUC is a development-oriented workplace where we believe in collaboration, clear leadership, and the power of education to change lives.
Here, you will be part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues throughout the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
