Substitute Agency Seeking Student Teachers and Preschool Teachers
The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will be an important part of our selection work.
Are you studying to become a teacher or preschool teacher?
At the Substitute Agency, you get the chance to gain valuable experience in an educational environment. Here, you have great opportunities to gain good work experience, create contacts for the future, and build networks in the city.
Your Responsibilities
If you are a preschool teacher student, you will primarily have the opportunity to work in preschools. The preschool is responsible for the educational work, and you will be an important support in their work. The tasks can vary from day to day and differ between workplaces. Sometimes you may work in a children's group, and other times you may have more practical tasks.
If you are a teacher student, you will have the opportunity to gain good experience as a substitute teacher. You will cover for the absence of regular teachers and conduct lessons. This means that you will be responsible for a whole class and can teach in one or more subjects. In the role of student substitute teacher, the assignment varies. Sometimes you may follow a planned lesson content, while at other times you may need to be responsible for planning the teaching yourself. Of course, you will have other teachers at the school to assist you.
Your Competence
In our organization, we support each other, and everyone contributes to a positive work environment. You are flexible and enjoy collaborating but also have no problem working independently. In stressful situations, you remain calm, and you always strive for your work and interactions with children/students to maintain high quality. To function in the role of a substitute, you need to be able to adapt to the routines of different workplaces. You build trust, are a role model, and create relationships with students and, in some cases, their guardians.
You must be at least 18 years old and have ongoing studies to become a preschool teacher, primary school teacher, subject teacher, or leisure teacher. You should have completed at least one internship period. Prior to employment and during the employment period, requested study certificates must be presented. Previous experience working with children and youth or other relevant experience related to school activities is an advantage. Having a B driver's license is also meritorious.
You speak and write fluently in Swedish. This is important as you, as an educator in the school, will support students in their language and communication development and ensure that students can use the language in a rich and nuanced way.
We Offer
Working as a substitute at the Substitute Agency gives you the opportunity to make valuable contacts and create networks for the future. With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. Our differences are our strength, and you can be assured that here you can be your best self.
We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you get Sweden's most important job and become part of something bigger! You are never alone, and together we are the city of Västerås.
Your employment is part of our so-called student track. Students are offered individual salary setting with a salary increase, provided that study certificates can be presented continuously during their studies. In the student track, you have great flexibility to work when it suits you based on your studies and internship periods.

Practical Information
The Substitute Agency's mission is to recruit and provide hourly employees from 1 day up to 2 months and 29 days for Västerås city's school activities. Through us, you have the opportunity to be booked for both longer and shorter assignments, with a minimum booking of three hours. Everything depends on the needs of the activities and how much you show that you can work based on your availability.
In our work tool TimePool, you register the days you can work yourself. Your availability needs to match the opening hours of the activities, primarily weekdays from 07:30 to 16:30. You will then be matched to assignments based on your area of expertise and can be booked at workplaces located both centrally in Västerås and in the countryside. Working hours may vary, and short-notice bookings may occur, so it is an advantage if you have Västerås as your starting point.
In this recruitment, you must show an extract from the criminal record, and you can preferably order and receive it digitally for the fastest handling. Before and during your employment in the student track, you are expected to provide the requested study certificates. If you fail to present the study certificates, we will review your employment, which may lead to a new title or termination of your employment. We always take references, and during the interview, we will ask you to provide contact information for two references. For you who are studying, we will always ask for at least one internship supervisor as a reference. If you cannot provide a previous supervisor as a reference, we will not be able to proceed with your recruitment process. If you have previously been employed by the city of Västerås, we will always take a reference from your manager at that workplace.
Other Information
Before you can be employed, you need to present an approved extract from the police's criminal record.
In connection with the interview, you need to prove your citizenship. You can do this with a passport or a personal certificate along with an ID document. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, you must present that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the requirement to have a work permit. Employment can only occur after verification of the work permit, which is required according to the Aliens Ordinance. All offers of recruitment and advertising assistance are declined.
