For a detailed description of the basic eligibility requirements and assessment criteria for a position as an assistant professor at MDU, please refer to the Employment Regulations at Mälardalen University link (https://www.mdu.se/om-mdu/jobba-med-oss/lediga-jobb).
Job Responsibilities
A position as an assistant professor is a fixed-term merit-based position for at least four and at most six years according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 12 a. The purpose is to provide you with the opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the eligibility requirements for a position as a university lecturer.
In the role of assistant professor in energy technology with a focus on electrical power engineering, you will work in a research and educational environment that is directly linked to the extensive electrification currently taking place in society. You are expected to actively contribute to and further develop research within Future Energy (FEC), collaborate with colleagues at MDU and in national and international environments, and contribute to knowledge development on how electrification and climate adaptation affect society's transition. The position also involves teaching within the energy technology educational programs, focusing on strengthening the content of electrical power engineering and linking this to the broad challenges of the energy transition. Your responsibilities will include research, teaching, and collaboration both within the institution and with external actors.
Eligibility Requirements
You must have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent scientific competence no more than seven years before the application deadline. To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. If you lack such training, you will be offered to complete it within two and a half years, corresponding to ten weeks of study. The scientific and pedagogical competence must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.
For this position, a doctoral degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required. You need to have the ability to teach and conduct research in English. It is advantageous if you have good oral and written communication skills in Swedish or have the ability to actively acquire these skills within four years.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment will be based on both scientific and pedagogical competence, as well as the ability and suitability required to perform the tasks well. Since the position is a merit-based position, the candidates' merits will be assessed primarily qualitatively; quantitative differences due to varying lengths of service should not be decisive.
In addition to the basic assessment criteria according to the Employment Regulations at MDU, special emphasis will be placed on experience in teaching electrical engineering at various levels, as well as experience in supervising both thesis projects and doctoral candidates. Documented experience in laboratory work will also weigh heavily. Furthermore, experience in applying for external research funding and knowledge of or experience with modeling tools such as PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, and ANSYS will be valued. An interest in collaborating with the surrounding community and integrating its challenges into both research and teaching is also significant.

You also need to have the ability to plan and organize work in a way that keeps deadlines and makes priorities clear. Collaboration skills are central, which means you need to relate to others in a responsive and smooth manner, communicate effectively, and contribute to resolving conflicts constructively. We also value pedagogical insight, where it is important to understand how people absorb knowledge and to adapt communication according to the recipient's conditions.
