Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer at MDU, your main responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. Here, research and education are closely intertwined, and research forms the basis for our education. Collaboration is also an integral part of our research and educational mission, and as a university lecturer, you actively contribute to the university's development work. Your responsibilities will also include general administration and professional development, as well as participating in the daily operations of the subject and the academy.

Your responsibilities include teaching political science courses at the undergraduate level, including planning, implementation, and examination within the political science bachelor's program. In connection with the development and launch of a new master's program in the fall of 2026, your teaching duties may also include parts of courses at the advanced level.

The position includes thesis supervision at the undergraduate level, with responsibility for supporting students in the research process and participating in seminars and assessments. Furthermore, administrative tasks related to course implementation and coordination and practical planning in connection with organizing conferences within the academy are included.

The position involves campus-based teaching and therefore requires you to be present on the Västerås campus to the extent required by the operations.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. The scientific and pedagogical skills must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

In addition, a doctoral degree in political science and documented pedagogical skill in teaching political science are required for this position. The position requires a very good ability to teach and communicate in both Swedish and English, as well as good knowledge of handling study administration in Canvas and Ladok.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria will include the degree of skill required for the position, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the tasks well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skill in this recruitment, as the position has a clear teaching focus. Therefore, pedagogical skill will be given greater weight than scientific ability in the overall assessment.

It is advantageous if the applicant has had course responsibility and has been an examiner in political science courses, has experience in thesis supervision, and has held administrative assignments or roles within the academy. Previous experience in organizing conferences, broad teaching experience in political science, and good methodological knowledge are also advantageous.

In a comprehensive assessment of suitability, personal abilities will also be considered. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good working environment.

For this position, organizational and administrative skills are of particular importance. Furthermore, it is important to be able to adapt teaching to different student groups, engage students, and create inclusive and stimulating learning environments. The position also requires the ability to integrate current research and practical applications into teaching, to take the initiative for improvement work, and a genuine interest in pedagogy and political science. The person hired should be able to work both independently and collaboratively to drive courses and teaching moments forward, develop course content, and contribute to quality work within education. A good ability to communicate clearly and appropriately for the audience, both orally and in writing, in Swedish and English is a prerequisite.
