Reception for Special Care

Our 1800 employees work with close care and health in Uppsala County. We have a wide range of services within primary care. Our patients meet us at Region Uppsala's own health centers or within habilitation, and we provide advice over the phone via 1177. Education, research, and development are important to us, as we adapt our offerings based on the needs of the residents. We already offer mobile teams, video visits, and smart e-services.

Experienced Social Worker for the Needle Exchange/GP Clinic for the Homeless in Uppsala

There is now an opportunity to apply for a temporary position as a social worker with us at the Needle Exchange/GP Clinic for the Homeless in Uppsala! The position is full-time from 2026-05-01 to 2026-12-31.

Your Mission

Your tasks include support conversations with patients, assisting in contacts with social authorities, providing information and training both internally and to relatives and networks, as well as collaborating with other operations within both the region and the municipality, as well as society at large, and actively participating in the needle exchange program.

The closest team consists of a total of 4 people working as a doctor, nurse, social worker, and medical secretary. You will work daytime, Monday to Friday, with weekends and public holidays off.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work, preferably with additional training in psychosocial treatment work. Experience in the areas of addiction and mental health, as well as social services and the non-profit sector, is advantageous, as is previous work in the area of addiction issues and harm reduction. We would also like you to have experience with the document system InfCare.

Since our operations are based on teamwork, you should enjoy solving problems together with others. This means we help each other with tasks among colleagues. Respectful treatment is of the highest priority in our assignments, and we place great importance on personal suitability for the position. To be successful in the job, you need to lead yourself, have good structure in your work, possess strong initiative, and also have high flexibility.

The Operation

The operation opened in the fall of 2016 and is located at the Academic Hospital in Uppsala and belongs to the management of Close Care and Health, Region Uppsala.

The clinic includes a medical clinic for the homeless in Uppsala as well as a needle exchange program, which should be easily accessible and trust-building for people who need special health and infection control interventions. We collaborate with social authorities, other authorities, and other healthcare neighbors. Within the group, there are people who often have multiple psychological, somatic, addiction, or social problems. To provide the best possible care to our visitors, we actively work with continuous evaluation and development of the operation - all for their benefit. The operation is grant-funded. In the future, we aim to expand the operation with a low-threshold LARO unit.
