We are transitioning to the title of nursing assistant and will gradually phase out the title of caregiver across all our psychiatric services. This work started on November 1, 2023. The change in title will not alter the need for specialist competence in psychiatry. Specialist competence remains very important and will continue to be developed. Within the administration, work has begun to assess what is needed for continued professional development, increased professional knowledge, and development opportunities related to patient care.

The area of operation (VO) forensic psychiatry belongs to the administration of Psychiatry, habilitation, and aids. The area consists of nine forensic psychiatric inpatient wards located in Trelleborg, Helsingborg, Hässleholm, and Kristianstad. Our outpatient units are located in Malmö, Helsingborg, and Hässleholm, and we currently have about 400 employees.

Forensic psychiatry cares for individuals who have been committed to forensic psychiatric care by the courts. Many have severe psychotic disorders, multiple disabilities with functional impairments, brain injuries, severe personality disorders, or substance abuse. Secondary complications such as lack of formal education, criminality, social isolation, and ostracism are common. The goal of forensic psychiatric care is to habilitate individuals suffering from severe mental illness to a daily life in society with a reduced risk of reoffending.

In Hässleholm, there is one outpatient unit and three inpatient wards; ward 10, 11, and 12. Additionally, we have ward 9 with ten beds in Kristianstad. The inpatient wards in Hässleholm together have 37 beds. They are primarily intended for patients who have been committed to forensic psychiatric care by the courts. Patients may stay with us for long periods, which gives us unique opportunities to follow them through the treatment and rehabilitation process. We work to ensure that all patients within inpatient care are our shared responsibility, and it is a given that we help each other between departments as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now welcoming nursing assistants in psychiatry for hourly employment to our inpatient departments in Hässleholm and Kristianstad. The hourly employment may lead to longer temporary positions.

In psychiatry, you are offered an exciting and interesting job with opportunities for knowledge development in all areas of the operation. As a nursing assistant/caregiver with us, you will participate in the psychiatric care of our patients, working for high patient safety through close collaboration with both colleagues and patients. Your work includes common nursing assistant tasks, including being responsible for daily routines, support conversations, group activities, and documentation in the journal system Melior.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has completed a nursing program with a focus on psychiatric care, or equivalent education, and has good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written. You may also have completed at least the fourth semester of a nursing program or at least the sixth semester as a medical student. Employment as a healthcare assistant may be relevant for a temporary position based on the employer's assessment of competence. It is advantageous if you have previous experience as a nursing assistant in psychiatry, preferably in inpatient care, as well as knowledge of the journal system Melior.
