Job Responsibilities

Academic language is part of the Study Support, Library, and Educational Development unit at University West.

The unit offers support in academic writing to students at various educational levels and with varying linguistic and academic backgrounds.

We are now looking for two writing tutors at 20% each. One position focuses on writing support in Swedish, and the other on writing support in English.

As a writing tutor within Academic Language, you primarily work with individual tutoring of students. The job involves supporting students in their writing process with a focus on academic language, text structure, genre, and scientific approach.

Your responsibilities include:

• conducting individual writing tutoring for students
• adapting the tutoring to the student's needs, educational level, and writing process
• supporting students in developing strategies for academic writing

The work is done in close collaboration with other writing tutors and coordinators within Academic Language. The positions are clearly focused on direct student contact.

Language Focus

• Writing Tutor with a focus on Swedish (6 months)
• Writing Tutor with a focus on English (12 months)

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• a master's degree in Swedish, Swedish as a second language, English, or another relevant subject area
• good experience in academic writing
• pedagogical experience in tutoring and/or teaching in a higher education environment

For the position focusing on Swedish, very good knowledge of Swedish is required. For the position focusing on English, very good knowledge of English is required.

It is an advantage if you have:

• experience working as a writing tutor or in a language workshop
• experience meeting students with different linguistic backgrounds and study conditions
• a completed doctoral degree in relevant subject areas related to the assignment
• knowledge of languages other than Swedish and English

Personal Qualities

You have a strong interest in supporting students in their writing. You are attentive, communicative, and have a good ability to meet students where they are in their writing process – from basic writing challenges to more advanced questions about academic language and scientific text.

About the Study Support, Library, and Educational Development Unit

The Study Support, Library, and Educational Development unit works with comprehensive support for students and teaching staff at University West. The operation is characterized by a clear user perspective and the significance of personal encounters. The unit includes, among other things, the library, study guidance, pedagogical support, and individual tutoring interventions.

Academic language is part of this operation and offers support in academic writing to students at various educational levels. The work is closely connected to the students' studies and focuses on concrete meetings and guidance in the writing process.
