Laboratory Technician at Biobank North

Laboratory Medicine is a county organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå, and Umeå, comprising approximately 550 employees within clinical genetics, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, and clinical pathology. Biobank North, healthcare hygiene, and tissue establishment are also part of Laboratory Medicine. The operations are accredited.

At Biobank North in Umeå, 28 people currently work, including biomedical analysts, laboratory technicians, and engineers. Our main mission is to support the public and healthcare by managing samples collected for care and treatment as well as research and development. Our task is to promote the collection and increase the availability of existing samples and to make the northern region attractive for research. We are responsible for all research sample collections managed and stored within the unit, as well as all clinical sample collections in each specialty within Laboratory Medicine.

As an employee at Biobank North, you work daytime on weekdays with the common goal of improving future healthcare. By enabling research, we together make a significant difference for existing and future patients!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a laboratory technician with us, you provide important service and enable efforts that affect many.

Biobank North offers service to researchers by assisting with advice, management, storage, and distribution of samples. As a laboratory technician, you will work with receiving, sorting, and preparing samples for further analysis. You will also register already taken samples, pick up and return samples from other departments, and work in our freezer hotel by selecting samples for research on various diseases to improve healthcare.

The tasks require high accuracy, and you work according to established routines. Your main task is to participate in the daily work at the laboratory and in the freezer hotel. Work in freezers is part of the job, and heavy lifting occurs.

The work is conducted according to Laboratory Medicine's quality system and in accordance with applicable ISO standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Training as a nursing assistant, training as a laboratory technician, or other equivalent education is required. You should be able to work independently and accurately based on established written methods. The work requires a high degree of flexibility as tasks may need to be adjusted as conditions change throughout the day. Good teamwork skills are essential.

Experience from working with healthcare-related information systems is valued. Experience from healthcare departments or primary care is advantageous, as we believe it gives you a greater sense of the patient behind the sample.
