Do you want to contribute to better health for everyone?

The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) operates within some of the key areas that are important to fulfill Karolinska Institutet's mission "to improve people's health".

We focus on research, development, and education in the following areas: medical pedagogy, informatics, management, ethics, and suicide prevention. LIME has about 110 employees and is located at Solna Campus.

LIME is looking for a postdoctoral researcher

for 2 years, full-time, focusing on a larger EU-funded project on how the European Health Data Space (EHDS) will be a central enabler for innovation in the health sector while promoting responsible secondary use of data.

Your role

The employed postdoctoral researcher will work within IHI FORTIFY, a research and innovation project under Horizon Europe that contributes to the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). IHI FORTIFY develops an integrated legal, technical, and governance framework to enable secure and innovation-promoting sharing of intellectual property-sensitive health data while protecting intellectual property rights, trade secrets, and trust between stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in all relevant parts of the project. Responsibilities include, among others:

  • Coordinating and contributing to stakeholder dialogue and collaboration activities in Europe, including FORTIFY's multistakeholder forum with participants from public authorities, health data holders, industry, researchers, and patient representatives.
  • Designing, conducting, and analyzing qualitative studies and mixed-method studies (e.g., interviews, workshops, consultations, and Delphi processes).
  • Contributing to the design and qualitative evaluation of real-world use cases, focusing on governance processes, decision-making, and stakeholders' roles in sharing intellectual property-sensitive data.
  • Compiling insights from use cases, stakeholder dialogues, and consortium research into policy briefs, guidance documents, and best practice recommendations relevant to the implementation of EHDS.
  • Contributing to the development of training materials, handbooks (playbooks), and capacity-building activities for EHDS actors.
  • Supporting dissemination and impact activities, including scientific publications, workshops, and presentations for European and national stakeholders.
  • Contributing to project coordination and administrative tasks, including documentation, reporting, and collaboration with other work packages.

Who are you?

To be employed as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. It is advantageous if you have obtained your PhD within the last three years; if there are special reasons, your degree may have been obtained earlier.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise at the intersection of health data governance, policy analysis, stakeholder dialogue, and/or social science methods relevant to digital health ecosystems. The ideal candidate has:

  • A PhD in medical science with a focus on management and innovation.
  • A medical degree and experience of practical work in healthcare.
  • Documented experience in qualitative research, case studies, stakeholder dialogue, and co-production/co-creation efforts.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical and legal content into accessible material for different target groups.
  • Experience in designing or conducting training, capacity-building activities, workshops, or policy-oriented deliverables.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary and international consortium and collaborating with stakeholders such as policymakers, industry, and patient organizations.
  • Independence, good collaboration skills, and confidence in working across legal, technical, and governance-related areas.
  • Experience writing and publishing scientific articles and presenting research results at scientific conferences.
  • Very good command of English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious

It is meritorious if you have:

  • A good understanding of issues related to health data sharing, privacy, protection of intellectual property rights, data governance frameworks, or regulation of digital health infrastructures (experience with EHDS-related issues is meritorious).
  • Experience with administrative tasks related to the research process, including establishing routines for research documentation.
  • We also place particular emphasis on your social competence, collaboration skills, and service orientation.
