Job Responsibilities
Do you want to work extra and do something meaningful at the same time? As a substitute within respite services, you support children and young people with disabilities and provide their parents with an opportunity for relief.
About the Assignment
As a respite worker, you are temporarily responsible for the care in the child's or young person's home. The work is based on the individual's needs and may involve assistance with personal care, cooking, light cleaning, walks, or various activities. It may also involve playing favorite games, crafting, or just being a social companion. Many of the children we meet need clear structure and communication, which means you can use methods such as low-arousal approach (LAB) and alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).
Unlike many other temporary positions, respite services mean that you get a schedule with a specific child. This means you become an important part of the child's everyday life as regular staff, with fixed and recurring shifts every week. The schedule is planned in consultation with the family and is adapted to both their needs and your possibilities.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who is responsible, confident in working independently, and has an easy time building trust. You have an interest in working with children or young people with disabilities, regardless of whether you have previous experience from the workforce or through relatives. Continuity and trust are important in this assignment. Therefore, we are looking for someone who can work continuously and create a safe and long-term relationship with the families you support. The medical responsibility always lies with the guardian, according to the decision on self-care.
Working Hours
Working hours vary depending on the families' needs and can be scheduled on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and nights.
Qualifications
To work as a substitute within support for people with disabilities, you must be at least 18 years old, in accordance with the regulations on minors' working environment (AFS 2023:2). If you do not meet the passing grade in Swedish 1 or Swedish as a second language 1, you may be offered a language test via EducateIt.
We consider it an advantage if you have completed or ongoing education in the field, such as support assistant, nursing assistant, or an ongoing or completed academic education in health and medical care, behavioral science, or educational training. It is also an advantage if you have previous experience working in the field of disability support or in care and nursing. If you have previous experience/knowledge of low-arousal approach (LAB) or alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), it is also an advantage, but not a requirement.
As a substitute within support for people with disabilities, you focus on the individual, have a pedagogical approach, and a genuine interest in people with different types of disabilities. It is important that you are attentive to the individual's needs to adapt your response in different situations. For us, it is desirable that you are responsible and have a flexible approach. It is also very important that you are stable and secure as a person.
Do you feel that the above description fits you? Then you are warmly welcome to apply!
