School Counselor at Vänersborg Municipality

One of our employees is moving on to new challenges, and we are now looking for you who want to work as a school counselor with us.

Initially, you will work with our students in the upper secondary school, but depending on needs, work at both lower and middle school levels may also be relevant.

As a school counselor, you will play an important role in Vänersborg Municipality's child and student health work and school development. You will work proactively and preventively to create a good environment for students' health, learning, and development. The work is varied and will involve many important contacts with both internal and external stakeholders.

You will belong to the child and student health team and report to the head of child and student health. The child and student health team is a separate unit within Vänersborg Municipality's child and education administration. We have about 40 employees represented by school psychologists, school nurses, school doctors, school counselors, speech therapists, and services focused on collaboration and adapted primary school.

The child and student health team is an important part of the schools' work regarding general issues concerning students' working environment and values. We will also support students' development towards the goals of education. In the individually focused work, the child and student health team has a particular responsibility to remove obstacles to each student's learning and development.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who, together with other professionals within student health and in collaboration with school management, educators, other school staff, students, and guardians, wants to work to promote a good psychosocial study environment for the students. A large part of the work involves supporting students and guardians and, if necessary, assisting in establishing contacts with external support functions. You will contribute with guidance and consultation in the psychosocial area. The school counselor will further contribute with psychosocial expertise in resource and development issues, organizational development, and change work. The work includes administrative tasks such as investigation work and mapping. You will work both at the individual and group level with individual counseling contacts and group activities in classes. The school counselor also plays an important role in the systematic quality work that takes place in the units and within central child and student health.

You will be part of a group of ten school counselors. You will meet your school counselor colleagues at regular category meetings and receive regular external supervision.

The student health teams serve as support to the principal in student health work. You may be part of several student health teams at different school units around the municipality. The student health teams also include school nurses, special educators, speech therapists, and school psychologists. At the school units, there are also other professional groups that are part of the team, such as social educators and study and career counselors.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or social pedagogy.

We would like you to have experience in social work with children and youth, preferably as a school counselor.

Conditions

Before employment, a criminal record extract must be presented.

The position is a permanent full-time position. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis.
