Do you want to help create professional pride, joy at work, and hope for the future?
At Astar, we educate adults – in an adult way. We are proud of our mission and are now looking for someone who shares our values and wants to make a difference for people in correctional facilities who are on their way to a new chapter in life.
About us
Astar is a leading player in adult education, both municipal and within labor market initiatives. Our vision is to contribute to a strong and viable labor market. We offer not only education and jobs – we create professional pride and joy at work.
In this mission, we conduct construction education inside correctional facilities. Together with our values and a structured pedagogy, we give students the opportunity to develop practical skills in construction and carpentry – knowledge that creates hope, work identity, and real job opportunities after serving their sentence.
Our values
Professional pride – We are knowledgeable, experienced, and work closely with the labor market. We use resources wisely and with respect.
Persistence – We never give up – neither on our students nor on ourselves. We believe in development through responsibility and high expectations.
Joy at work – We build good relationships, are curious, enthusiastic, and welcoming. Together we create a workplace where everyone can thrive.
About the role
As a construction teacher within the correctional system, you will teach both theoretical and practical aspects of construction and carpentry. You provide students with a safe and structured pathway into the construction industry – focusing on craftsmanship, safety, and pride in the profession.
The position includes, among other things:
- Teaching courses in construction, carpentry, tool handling, and safety
- Planning and implementing teacher-led activities according to industry standards and the Swedish National Agency for Education's requirements
- Student administration and tracking of progress
- Collaboration with correctional staff to create a safe, secure, and motivating learning environment
- Developing and adapting teaching materials for the target group
- Collegial collaboration with other teachers in the region and nationally within Astar
You will not work alone – you will be part of an engaged team that together creates an education to be proud of.
We are looking for someone who can step in as a substitute for shorter and longer periods. And who:
- Is a qualified carpenter/construction worker
- Has at least two years of experience in the construction industry
- Has good knowledge of Swedish and can communicate clearly and pedagogically
- Has the ability to inspire, motivate, and create structure
- Thrives in an environment with clear frameworks and where collaboration with correctional staff is a natural part of everyday life
Meritorious
- Experience in teaching or mentoring
- Experience from correctional facilities, labor market education, or other special target groups
- Vocational teacher certification
We offer
- A workplace where you can grow and develop
- A values-driven context with professional pride, persistence, and joy at work
- Colleagues who support each other and celebrate successes together
- An opportunity to truly impact people's lives
- A meaningful mission where your construction skills become a pathway to hope for the future and a concrete second chance for the students
