Research Assistant at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University and has about 90 employees.
The department conducts high-quality research and education in economics supported by a well-functioning administration. We are an international and dynamic institution located centrally in the university area of Frescati.

Job Responsibilities
The Department of Economics at Stockholm University is seeking a full-time research assistant for 12 months starting in January 2026.
You will work on a range of new and ongoing research projects in public economics and inequality. The projects involve a group of researchers: Professor David Seim (Stockholm University), Professor Gabriel Zucman (Paris School of Economics and UC Berkeley), and Professor Marius Ring (University of Texas at Austin) as well as PhD students. The research projects utilize large administrative datasets and empirical methods from the research frontier.
The research assistant will receive guidance from the aforementioned researchers. The assistant will be physically based at the Department of Economics, Stockholm University, and work closely with group members. Previous assistants at the Department of Economics, SU, have gone on to top-ranked PhD programs in economics.
- Processing and handling large datasets.
- Statistical and econometric analysis, primarily in Stata, but also in R and Python.
- Drafting reports summarizing analysis.
- Writing literature reviews.
Qualifications
Essential Qualities:
- Degree in economics or another field that includes a high proportion of quantitative coursework.
- Extensive programming skills in Stata.
- Strong interest in economics and social issues.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently.
- Good organizational skills.
Other Desirable Qualities:
- Previous experience as a research assistant.
- Programming skills in R and Python.
- Experience working with large datasets.

About the Position
The position is full-time for 7-8 months starting as early as January 2026. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date by agreement.
