Job Description

The postdoctoral researcher will study the significance of DNA single-strand breaks and how they affect gene expression. In the project, we will map how frequent these DNA damages are and where they are localized, both topoisomerase-dependent and topoisomerase-independent DNA damages. We will study how they correlate with gene expression and search for drugs that can inhibit DNA single-strand breaks.

Qualifications

• PhD in pharmaceutical or medical sciences or another relevant field. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to those who have completed their degree within the last three years. The calculation of the three-year period is based on the last application date. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier.
• Documented experience in the production of recombinant proteins, preferably DNA polymerases. Experience in designing fusion proteins is also desirable.
• Documented experience in using DNA polymerases to modify and detect DNA damages.
• A broad molecular biology background is required, with documented experience in developing new molecular biology methods.
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English as well as good documentation skills.

Desirable/meritorious

• Experience in cell culture and transfection of human cell lines.
• Experience in DNA sequencing.
• In-depth knowledge of DNA damages and cellular repair processes.
• Solid experience and skill in writing scientific articles and designing figures for them.

About the Position

The position is temporary for 2 years according to the central collective agreement. The scope is full-time. Start date 26-03-01 or by agreement. Place of employment: Uppsala
