Postdoctoral Researcher in PET Imaging and Metabolomics of Liver Cancer

Do you want to work with PET imaging and metabolomics of liver cancer supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee engagement and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.

Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has about 85 employees, and here PhD students, teachers, researchers, and administrators work closely together in a creative and open environment.

The research group Translational PET Imaging (https://www.uu.se/institution/lakemedelskemi/forskning/vara-forskningsomraden/translationell-avbildning-med-pet) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project that combines PET imaging and metabolomic analysis of liver cancer, to work in a scientifically leading environment with researchers from diverse and international backgrounds. The postdoctoral project is a collaboration with the research group Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry (https://www.uu.se/institution/lakemedelskemi/forskning/vara-forskningsomraden/analytisk-farmaceutisk-kemi).

You will work in the research group Translational PET Imaging, which aims to improve healthcare through the development of new techniques in molecular imaging for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The research group is associated with SciLifeLab (https://www.uu.se/en/research/research-infrastructure/national-research-infrastructures-hosted-by-uppsala-university/scilifelab) and the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and consists of about 10 senior researchers and PhD students, many with international backgrounds. The project is a collaboration with the research group Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which has strong expertise in chromatography-mass spectrometry and metabolomic analysis.

Job Responsibilities

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer, the sixth most common cancer in the world, and the third leading cause of cancer-related death (approximately 830,000 deaths per year). The disease is often diagnosed late, which limits the possibilities for effective treatment. This postdoctoral project combines new PET imaging techniques with metabolomic tissue analysis to develop new tools for early diagnosis and monitoring of treatment effects in liver cancer.

The postdoctoral researcher will receive training in the development of PET radiopharmaceuticals, in vivo molecular imaging techniques, and metabolomic analysis of tumor tissue. The exact description of the job responsibilities will be tailored to the applicant's individual skills and research interests.

The main task is to lead and participate in the research project. Your responsibilities may include supervising thesis students, teaching, or equivalent.

Qualifications

A PhD in chemistry, biology, biomedicine, pharmacy, or related fields, or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a degree in these subjects. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years will be considered. When calculating the three-year time frame, the last application date is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or union duties, etc.

The applicant must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, and have very good knowledge of English. The applicant is expected to work independently and be able to take initiatives. The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct research based on scientific excellence.

Desirable/meritorious

Previous experience with PET/imaging techniques or chromatography-mass spectrometry and metabolomic analysis is meritorious. Documented training in radiation protection and/or laboratory animal science is an asset.
