Job Advertisement: Course Coordinator for Beekeeping Education
Västra Götalandsregionen, the largest folk high school authority in Sweden, manages six folk high schools: Billströmska, Dalsland, Fristad, Grebbestad, Göteborg, and Vara.
We conduct education and folk education by allowing participants to take general courses to gain qualifications for higher studies or profile courses where they can deepen their knowledge in a special area. There are about thirty longer courses to choose from. At most of our schools and at the administrative level, we also run various projects in a range of areas. The administration also includes Validering Väst and the VIA assignment, which supports individuals who are further from the labor market. We aim to create opportunities for individuals and for society by working for security, participation, and hope for the future. Many say that their year at folk high school was the best year of their lives. Folk high schools make a difference and help people find their future.
Fristad Folk High School, with about 130 students, offers general courses at the upper secondary level, gardening education, nursing education, weaving courses, and Växa - a course for individuals with functional variations on-site in Fristad. An additional 60 students study general courses, professional beekeeping, or weaving remotely. The school's boarding facility accommodates about 40 participants. The school also has conference activities. In total, we have just over 40 employees working in teaching and service.
Description
The beekeeping education program is part-time and semi-distance, consisting of 10 school-based meetings during the beekeeping season with digital lessons in the weeks in between.
In addition to the course coordinator, a number of experts in their special fields teach – some digitally, some on-site. Based on folk high school pedagogy, the focus is on collective learning and collaboration. Practical exercises in the apiary, theory, group work, and study visits are alternated. As a teacher, it is important to see, value, and utilize each participant's unique experiences.
Responsibilities
We are now looking for a course coordinator who will integrate the various parts of the course and create a cohesive thread for both participants and external experts. The role includes admissions, scheduling, coordination of digital lessons, on-site meetings (including study visits), and examinations, as well as contact with the Craft Council regarding the journeyman certificates. It is a plus if you can also teach food handling. The course coordinator also manages necessary tasks in the school's apiary during the weeks when participants are not on-site and should be able to respond if something happens in the apiary.
Qualifications
You have a professional beekeeping degree and experience running your own beekeeping business. You are or have been engaged in an association and have a good network within professional beekeeping.
Experience in teaching or pedagogical activities is an advantage. Having worked at or attended a folk high school is also a plus.
You need to live within a reasonable distance from the school to manage the apiary.
Conditions
The position starts in January 2027 but is advertised now to create good conditions for handover & training during the ongoing course in 2026. The person who gets the position will have the opportunity to work with the current course coordinator on certain aspects. Compensation for this will be on an hourly basis.
