Professor in Fire Technology

The research subject of fire technology conducts education and applied research for a fire-safe and sustainable built environment and operates within:
- The interaction between fire and other societal risks with its surroundings
- Risk management concerning the occurrence and outcome of fires
- Cost-benefit and life cycle analysis concerning fire protection measures
- Fire and explosion safety for transport and storage infrastructure of energy and materials
The research adopts a systems perspective based on technology and method development that connects to societal challenges and is conducted in well-developed collaboration with societal actors. The research subject plays a central role in the education of fire engineers but also supports education in civil engineering architecture and construction engineering at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Collaboration in education and research occurs with rescue services, municipalities, authorities, industry, trade organizations, insurance companies, and technology and design companies active in the construction sector.
Job Responsibilities
In the position of professor and subject representative, you will have overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject, including research, doctoral education, and education at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The professor and subject representative has a special responsibility for ensuring funding for the activities and for contacts with the surrounding community. An important task is to build a strong research subject where doctoral students, staff, and students can grow. The position of professor and subject representative is a permanent appointment.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a professor, the candidate must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical proficiency. Equal care should be taken in the assessment of pedagogical and scientific proficiency.
To meet the requirements for appointment as a professor, the applicant must:
- be prominent in their field and demonstrate scientific work of high international standard, showing a clear qualitative progression
- have a total scientific production that in quantity corresponds to at least three doctoral theses, including the doctoral thesis
- demonstrate academic leadership, through among other things:
- experience of research-related trust assignments such as expert, opponent, and/or member of grading committees
- experience in leading research projects
- experience in competitively seeking and obtaining external funding for research projects as the main applicant
- experience in internal assignments within the university
- experience in pedagogical leadership
- have experience in supervising at the doctoral level and, unless there are exceptional reasons, have been the main supervisor for at least one doctoral student from admission to doctoral degree
- demonstrate pedagogical proficiency through reflective experience, teaching skills, and teaching development
- demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community, through among other things:
- making new knowledge available to the surrounding community
- integrating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts.
In addition to the eligibility requirements for professors, particular emphasis will be placed on leadership ability when recruiting a professor and subject representative, through among other things:
- experience of personnel responsibility and personnel development
- self-awareness and the ability to reflect on one's own leadership experiences
- demonstrating experience of budget responsibility or other financial responsibility.

- Other assessment criteria
Other assessment criteria (weighted equally):
- The degree of such proficiency that is a requirement for eligibility
- Proficiency in developing and leading activities and personnel within a university
- Administrative proficiency that is significant in relation to the subject content and the tasks included in the appointment
- The ability to obtain external research and development funding
- The ability to communicate and promote the utilization of research results and development work
- Established and active collaboration with the surrounding community, especially with actors of significance concerning the subject's education and research within the context of construction
- Experience in leadership roles within academic activities
- Documented experience in leading and developing productive interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary collaborations
- The ability to communicate in English and/or Swedish in speech and writing
This position may be classified in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
