The Individual and Family Care in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that liberates and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life through proximity and interaction.

Family treatment is an outpatient service for children and youth aged 0-18 (21) years and their families. The service implements various types of approved outpatient interventions for children and young people, families, and young adults. We work to strengthen cohesion, care, and trust based on the best interests of the child.

The family treatment unit consists of approximately 40 employees and is currently led by two unit managers and one team leader. The unit is divided into two workgroups based on method and age.

The children's group (0–12 years) works among other things based on the methods Cognitive Integrated Treatment for Risk of Child Abuse (KIBB), The Stairs, Parenting Young Children (PYC), and Safer Children. The youth group (12–18 (21) years) works among other things based on the methods Intensive Home-Based Family Treatment (IHF), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and Criminality as a Lifestyle. The therapists also work with youth service and youth care in the enforcement of sentences for young offenders up to 21 years, as well as with drug treatment. The service also has a team that meets parents of placed children/youth, the Parent Support Unit (FSE). Family treatment also has support groups for children in families with mental illness or addiction.
