Do you want to help shape the future of digital infrastructure? As a professor and subject representative in computer science at Luleå University of Technology, you will lead and further develop a research and education area that is central to tomorrow's computing systems.

You will lead a research group with strong expertise in algorithms, computational models, software engineering, and resource-efficient, intelligent systems. The group conducts research from fundamental computer science principles to advanced applications in areas such as energy-efficient AI, hyperdimensional computing, memory-safe programming, and software development for large-scale distributed systems.

As a subject representative, you will build a dynamic research and educational environment in close collaboration with industry, international academic partners, and the university's educational programs and courses in the field of computer engineering.

Subject Description

Computer science encompasses research on algorithms, data structures, computational models, and software engineering for the development of resource-efficient, distributed, and intelligent systems with applications in the future's digital infrastructure. The subject also has a special responsibility for didactic development within the fundamentals of computer science.

Job Responsibilities

As a professor and subject representative, you have overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject, which includes research, doctoral education, and education at undergraduate and advanced levels. You ensure funding for the activities and are responsible for collaboration with academia, industry, and other external stakeholders. A central part of the assignment is to build and maintain a strong research subject where doctoral students, staff, and students can develop and grow.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a professor, the candidate must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical proficiency. Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific proficiency.

To meet the requirements for appointment as a professor, the applicant must:

  • be distinguished in their field and demonstrate scientific activity of high international standard, showing a clear quality progression
  • have a total scientific production that in quantity corresponds to at least three doctoral theses, including the doctoral thesis
  • demonstrate academic leadership, including experience in research-related trust assignments such as expert, opponent, and/or member of examination boards
  • experience in leading research projects
  • experience in competitively seeking and obtaining external funding for research projects as the main applicant
  • experience in internal assignments within the university
  • experience in pedagogical leadership
  • have experience in supervision at the doctoral level and, unless there are exceptional reasons, have been the main supervisor for at least one doctoral student from admission to doctoral degree
  • demonstrate pedagogical proficiency through reflective experience, teaching skills, and teaching development
  • demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society, including making new knowledge accessible to the surrounding community and incorporating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts.

In addition to the eligibility requirements for professors, particular emphasis will be placed on leadership ability when recruiting a professor who is also a subject representative, including experience in personnel responsibility and personnel development, self-awareness and the ability to reflect on one's own leadership experiences, and demonstrating experience in budget responsibility or other financial responsibility.

For the appointment, the ability to teach in Swedish and/or English is required. If teaching is conducted in Swedish, the employee is expected, unless already fulfilled, to be able to teach in Swedish within two years. The university offers support for language development. Most employees in the computer science subject are currently men, therefore we welcome female applicants.
