We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and client transport.
The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the remand center Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity increases, and there is much happening in the operational area in terms of renovations and new constructions. The largest professional group is corrections officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. At Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, crop production, packaging/assembly, etc. Sörbyn prison is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry, kitchen, learning centers, and treatment programs. The prison and remand center Umeå are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn prison is easiest to reach by car. Staff parking is available at all units.
