Department Description
The IT section at Lund University is a central part of the university's digital development.
We work closely with education, research, and administration to deliver secure, modern, and user-friendly IT services. We provide and deliver IT services to various parts of the university based on their needs, both in the form of purchase and sale financed as well as core funded services.
As a controller/economic manager, you belong to the Stab Department at the IT section. The department's mission is to support the section with expertise in finance, administration, and overall IT architecture. More information about the IT section can be found here (https://www.it.lu.se/start).

Since it is important for our operations to have easy and accessible support, we usually work on-site, although we have flexible working agreements and the possibility of remote work agreements by agreement. Close and frequent contact with other departments is important to understand our operations and succeed well in the role.
Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility
As a Controller/Economic Manager at the IT section, you have a central and responsible role. Your main task is to drive, plan, organize, and follow up on all financial aspects of the section's operations. Our goal is to increase transparency, quality, efficiency, and sustainability in the section's financial work. To succeed, you need to understand the needs and challenges of the IT operations to contribute to the section's overall goal achievement.
You work closely with the section's management and are responsible for ensuring that the financial perspective is included in strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. We prefer that you have experience in controlling and finance from the IT sector. The role also includes some system management of the financial systems. You will also participate in a university-wide network for economists that spans the entire university.
Your main areas of responsibility:
- Be responsible for and drive the overall financial work of the section.
- Develop and manage the section's financial models for both purchase/sale operations and core funded operations.
- Drive and develop processes for budgeting, ongoing monitoring, and financial analysis.
- Be responsible for financial reporting, risk management, and internal control.
- Handle issues regarding investments and strategies for long-term financial sustainability.
- Deliver clear and pedagogical financial reports that are used both internally and by clients from other parts of the university.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Relevant academic education in finance, or equivalent education or experience deemed relevant by the employer.
- Documented extensive experience in working with and further developing financial models, financial management, financial analysis, and budgeting processes.
- Good understanding of accounting principles.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Good ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously as well as emerging changes.
- Experience in driving change and improving work processes.
- Good ability to communicate finance clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, both within and outside the section.
- Good Swedish and English skills in both spoken and written form.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in financial work within complex organizations, preferably within the public research and education sector.
- Experience working in an IT operation, e.g., as a controller, project manager, product owner, client, or system administrator.
- Experience in driving projects or familiarity with working in project form.
- Experience using AI tools as support in the work.
Personal Qualities
You are proactive and attentive, have an easy time collaborating both within and outside your group, have a structured working method, and enjoy working in a complex environment.
You take responsibility for and support the section's managers in their work with ongoing finances and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to help where needed. You are good at communicating simply and clearly, and you know that openness, clarity, attentiveness, and support are key to effective collaboration. Additionally, it is important that you can explain complex issues in a pedagogical manner.
To be successful in the role, you should have a good ability to think both analytically and strategically. You see the big picture while being able to understand the details, and you handle challenges with a solution-focused approach. You have integrity and a commitment that is contagious.
