Job Description

As a mechanical designer at AFRY, you will work with the entire chain of mechanical design. The role involves creating 3D models and drawings in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor, making material and component selections, as well as performing overall strength calculations. You will be an important part of the project team and responsible for the mechanical design aspect, which requires close collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines. The work primarily takes place at AFRY's office or at the client's site but may also offer some opportunity for remote work.

We expect you to drive the design work from idea to finished solution and contribute your expertise to ensure that the project delivers according to requirements and timelines. You will receive support from your manager and an assigned buddy who will help you get into the role, as well as access to AFRY's extensive network of specialists. In the long term, there are good development opportunities – for example, to deepen your knowledge in strength calculations, take on the role of design leader or project manager, and develop as a consultant with a holistic perspective in client assignments.

Some assignments may require security clearance, which means that the role may involve security-classified projects in the future.

Qualifications

In the role of mechanical designer, your personal qualities are crucial for success. You need to be a Problem Solver who can handle complex challenges in design by seeing the big picture and approaching problems from multiple angles. Furthermore, it is important that you Plan and Structure your work, with clear plans for design assignments and organization of drawings and releases to ensure quality in the project. The role also requires you to be Proactive, as you are often expected to drive the work forward without being micromanaged. Finally, it is essential that you are Service-oriented, as you represent AFRY at the client site and need to act with a service mindset, deliver according to the client's needs, and be responsive to new opportunities.

Requirements

• Work experience:
• Good knowledge of overall mechanical design
• Experience in CAD design in any 3D CAD program
• Ability to collaborate and work in project teams
• Education:
• University degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• System knowledge:
• Experience working in any CAD program
• Language skills:
• understand and speak Swedish and English relatively fluently and in detail in both spoken and written form

Meritorious

• Work experience:
• Knowledge of machining techniques
• Overall understanding of welding design
• Education:
• Courses or experience in welding design
• System knowledge:
• SolidWorks, Catia or Inventor
