Welcome to Sundsvall Municipality!

Sundsvall Municipality is one of the largest employers in Norrland with around 8,000 employees and over 300 professions. Together, we fulfill one of the most important missions in society – to create benefit and value for residents, businesses, and future generations. Regardless of the activity, we work towards the same goal: to be a great place to live, work, and thrive.

We are currently in an exciting phase of development. We are a pioneer in digital development and artificial intelligence, leading the work to create smart solutions for the future public sector.

Sundsvall plays a central role in the green transition in northern Sweden. We are convinced that the right places for this transition are here. As a municipality, we are preparing to grow by preparing land, creating new educational opportunities, marketing the municipality, and welcoming new residents from around the world.

Your new workplace:

Do you want to make a difference for children, youth, and their families?

The Family House has received an increase in services and is now looking for several family therapists.

We offer support and treatment services to families with children and youth aged 0-18 years. We have 20 dedicated family therapists divided into four specialized teams. Together, we work to strengthen relationships and communication, understand emotions and behaviors, and develop parenting skills.

We are primarily looking for therapists for our IHF team (Intensive Home-Based Family Treatment), where we work intensively with placement-related cases. The team is certified in the autumn of 2025 and works cross-professionally around each family. There is also the possibility of placement in our other teams: the Safety Team (domestic violence), the Interaction Team (interaction and attachment), and the Behavior Team (risk behaviors, psychosocial difficulties, and school absenteeism).

The Family House is centrally located in Sundsvall and offers external supervision as well as wellness benefits, such as gym memberships and access to the municipality's recreational facilities.

How you contribute in the role of family therapist:

The work as a family therapist focuses on children, youth, and their parents. As a family therapist at the Family House, you work on behalf of social workers, and the interventions are tailored to each family's needs and circumstances. You will be part of a dedicated and competent team with a holistic perspective on family treatment.

All family therapists are trained in ICDP and work from a systems theory foundation. Opportunities for deepening in other methods depend on which team you belong to. Examples of methods we use include FFT, KIBB, Trappan, Safer Children, IHF, Whole Child, and Crime as a Lifestyle. Therapists working with IHF and FFT also receive method supervision.

Your tasks may include:

  • planning, implementation, and documentation of treatment interventions
  • psychosocial support, motivational interviewing, and parent support
  • conversations with children, parents, and families
  • collaboration with other professionals and authorities

Your qualifications and experience:

You who are applying have a degree in social work, behavioral science, or another relevant higher education that the employer deems appropriate. It is an advantage if you have a few years of experience in psychosocial treatment work.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Basic psychotherapy training (Step 1)
  • Further education in systems theory or CBT
  • Training in the methods we use (see above)

As a person, you are engaged, positive, and flexible, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. You have good personal maturity, which means you are emotionally stable, have self-awareness, and are secure in yourself. You can distinguish between the personal and the professional, have good empathetic abilities, are easy to collaborate with, and have a curious and exploratory attitude.

A B driver's license is required for the position.

We place great importance on personal suitability!
