Our Operations

The medical unit of habilitation belongs to the functional disability area within the Close Care and Health administration in Region Uppsala. Habilitation targets children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities; autism with or without intellectual disability, intellectual disability, movement disabilities, multiple disabilities, and acquired brain injury.

The medical unit aims to identify and address medical complications that may be associated with a disability. This may involve issues such as sleep problems, eating situations, or mental health issues. The unit collaborates closely with the habilitation units and cooperates with doctors at the Academic Hospital.

The unit also has healthcare responsibility up to the nurse level for children's residences, short-term housing for children and adolescents in Uppsala County, short-term housing within LSS for adults, and certain HVB homes.

At the medical unit, doctors, nurses, dietitians, and secretaries work. We also have pediatric neurologists and ST doctors from the Academic Hospital, as well as a BUP consultant who holds consultations in our premises for certain children belonging to habilitation.

Your Assignment

Your tasks include:

  • Providing advice and support in medical care issues to patients with disabilities, their relatives, and networks.
  • Being a link between the patient and their network and other healthcare within the municipality and region.
  • Acting as a resource person and consultant on medical questions for the habilitation units' employees.
  • Providing guidance and training to relatives and staff.
  • Participating in cross-county collaboration with the various habilitation units.
  • Providing telephone advice, managing appointments, and conducting reception visits.
  • Being responsible for health and medical care issues at the municipality's children's and youth residences as well as short-term housing within LSS.

Your Competence

We are looking for a licensed nurse, preferably with a few years of experience. It is important that you have an interest in the target groups of habilitation, and we prefer that you have previously worked with people with disabilities. The work requires that you have good collaboration skills and enjoy, and have experience in, working in teams, but also that you have the ability to work independently. Since travel in the job occurs, a driver's license is a requirement.

As a person, you are clear in your communication and structured in your work approach. You are attentive and have good pedagogical skills and can easily establish contact with both patients, relatives, and colleagues. It is also important that you have a desire to develop the operations together with your colleagues in the unit. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
