Kriminalvården is looking for a Security Officer

Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.

Kriminalvården, operational area Halmstad, consists of the Halmstad prison and detention center (from 2027). Currently, the prison has 117 places for male inmates in security class 2 and six places for female inmates in security class 3. When the detention center in Halmstad opens, an additional 104 places for detainees will be added, primarily from the district court reception areas of Varberg and Halmstad. The operational area Halmstad is located in the Flygstaden area, about five kilometers from Halmstad city center. Nearby, you will find shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, and Halmstad airport. There is public transport (bus) to Halmstad city center and, to some extent, Falkenberg. From the city center, you can easily continue by train. Commuting by private car is also possible. Kriminalvården offers special staff parking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Security Officer, you will work operationally with security-related issues for Kriminalvården in Halmstad. In your role as a Security Officer, during your initial period, together with local project leaders, you will have overall responsibility for the implementation and commissioning of the new detention center in Halmstad in 2027. You will report directly to the security inspector. You will work broadly, and your workdays will vary depending on the needs of the operations. Close and good collaboration with other staff is a very important part of your assignment as you are a support function for the core operations.

The role also involves independent work in developing analyses and forecasts to enhance security efforts. You will assist the organization with decision-making materials, for example, through risk and vulnerability analyses, incident investigations, and environmental analysis. You will compile, draw conclusions, and propose relevant protective measures. You will follow up and support the work related to security reports for incidents and conduct local investigations and training as assigned. You will play an active role in collaboration with the security department at Kriminalvården's headquarters, the police authority, and other actors in the justice chain. You will also participate in local and external collaborations on security issues.

As a Security Officer, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the systematic security work, analyzing operations, and producing and implementing instructions and action plans for the prison.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has a good ability to think strategically and has a broad perspective on issues. You consider the long-term significance of matters and their further consequences and adapt your actions accordingly. Great emphasis is placed on collaboration with managers, duty officers, and other functions with security assignments. The role of Security Officer involves a significant amount of teaching to others as you will conduct various training sessions for both new and regular staff. It is important that you have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and the different conditions of individuals. You speak clearly and articulately in both small and large groups, are receptive to others, listen, and adapt to the situation. In your interactions, you are calm, secure, attentive, and accommodating.

Requirements

• Academic education with a focus on security or other education and experience that the employer deems relevant and equivalent.
• Experience in security work.
• Very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

Meritorious

• Experience in a mentoring/teaching role.
• Experience in investigative work.
• Experience in a decision-making role.
• Experience with Kriminalvården's client administrative systems.
• Experience in the areas of SBA, information security, technical/physical security, local instructions, and routines.
