The Eye Clinic

The eye department offers basic and to some extent highly specialized eye care for Gotland's more than 60,000 inhabitants. The operations are conducted in close collaboration with other surgical and medical specialties. Continuous efforts are made to further develop the operations and thereby improve care for the population of Gotland.

We have approximately 13-14,000 visits per year where we perform outpatient services in general ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and eyelid surgeries, as well as outpatient care for medical retina with injection services. The department has primary on-call responsibility during the day and standby duty part of the weekend. Patients needing highly specialized care are primarily referred to the eye clinics at St. Erik's Eye Hospital or Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala.

The eye department at Visby Hospital is a small and well-functioning workplace with many employees with long experience where we work a lot in teams. Our staff group includes roles such as ophthalmic nurse, nurse, nursing assistant, optometrist, orthoptist, and doctors with various specialties.

Your Responsibilities

Your tasks are varied with great opportunities to develop your personal skills. You will play an important role in the care of our patients in connection with cataract surgeries and other outpatient surgeries. In our operating unit, a large part of the work involves being responsible for preparations, cleaning, and sterilization of instruments.

You will work independently, conducting preliminary examinations of patients before doctor visits. You will have significant responsibility for ensuring that the clinic runs smoothly by managing supplies, orders, and inventory, as well as cleaning and organizing our examination rooms.

We work with the TakeCare journal system and Topcons and Haag Streit imaging systems.

Who Are You?

We are looking for someone who is a trained nursing assistant. If you have experience or a strong interest in working in eye care, that is an advantage. If you lack experience in eye care, experience in other outpatient work is also beneficial.

We see it as a given that you have the ability and desire to help develop the operations and that you are willing to contribute new ideas. In your interactions with patients, you are trustworthy and empathetic. You have good collaboration skills, are attentive, and have the ability to adapt your approach based on the individual and the situation.

To thrive in the role, you need to be quick to learn new systems, equipment, and routines. You enjoy a fast-paced environment with varied tasks. As a person, you are self-driven, meticulous, take initiative, and are service-oriented.
