Our Operations

Do you want to work with the whole person – not just the diagnosis? Geriatrics is the specialty where you can use your entire medical competence, develop your clinical intuition, and make a real difference in the patient's quality of life. With us, you will receive a residency position that combines breadth, complexity, and meaning.

The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center is characterized by multidisciplinary teams – something we are very proud of. We have a broad mission where high competence and strong commitment are common denominators. Teaching and research are a natural part of our everyday life.

The primary target group for geriatrics is frail elderly patients with limited recovery capacity during acute illness. Many have palliative care needs, which means we place great emphasis on symptom relief. We are also responsible for memory assessments and treatment of dementia.

Here you will encounter complex patients, where your assessment and planning make a difference every day. You will work with medical, psychological, social, and functional aspects – while developing your competence in an area that will only become more important in the future. You will also become part of an engaged team with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, nurses, and nursing assistants. Here you will learn real collaboration – and receive support from colleagues.

Your Mission

During your residency, you will serve in our inpatient departments within geriatric acute care, ortogeriatrics, and neurogeriatrics, as well as in our memory and geriatrics clinic. The position includes on-call duties and mandatory side assignments in areas such as stroke care, specialized palliative care, and acute care. The structure of the residency will be developed in consultation with the section chief, study director, and your designated supervisor. Supervision and training will occur regularly.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed physician who wants to start their specialist training in geriatrics. You have a genuine interest in working with complex patients and see the value in taking a holistic perspective on care. We believe you are a person with drive and initiative, who enjoys taking responsibility and contributing to development. You are curious about research and would like to combine clinical work with academic ambitions – for example, as a doctoral student or postdoc. Previous experience in teaching, medical development work, or research is an advantage.

For us, personal suitability and collaboration skills are crucial. You are a team player who builds team spirit and creates a positive work environment. We expect you to actively contribute to the development of geriatrics and have a strong interest in new knowledge and improvement work.

Your Competence

You are meticulous and strive to meet goals and quality standards. You handle complex issues and have the ability to analyze and solve complicated problems. You work well with others, are attentive, and resolve conflicts constructively while making correct assessments and priorities, weighing complex information, and demonstrating judgment in action and decision-making.

We Offer

Permanent employment at 100%. The position includes on-call duties. A trial period may apply. Start date by agreement. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
