Field of Operations: Heart and Lung Diseases

We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (https://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

Thoracic surgery is part of Uppsala University Hospital's specialized clinic for surgical treatment of thoracic diseases. We operate on diseases of the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels. The most common diagnoses are coronary artery disease, valve disorders, aneurysms, and lung tumors. We also perform ECMO treatments for indications of respiratory and heart failure.

Our operating department is a modern and high-tech unit with five operating rooms for conventional thoracic surgery and an intervention room for catheter-based intervention, as well as a room for robotic surgery (100 house). We have close collaboration across the entire field of operations and a shared responsibility for the entire care chain, which allows us to plan, implement, and evaluate the entire patient flow. We work with short decision-making paths, where long-term thinking and quality are guiding principles.

With us, you will have the chance to become part of a highly specialized and exciting operation where you will work in a very efficient organization with a professional team that together delivers specialist care with a very high medical quality.

Your Mission

As a surgical nurse with us, you are an important part of our skilled team where we support and help each other in the operating room work.

We want you to focus on the patient and be responsible and motivated in your work. It is important that you find it easy to collaborate with your colleagues and other contacts we meet in our work. Contributing with your specific competence and the thoughts and ideas that come from it are important pieces for us in the continued development work. We expect you to want to contribute your knowledge and ideas for improvement.

At the thoracic clinic, the surgical nurse works with thoracic surgery both in the operating rooms and in the intervention and robotic surgery rooms.

The position involves primarily daytime work, but evening work and on-call duties are also included. The schedule is based on individual planning, and working time reduction is included in the scheduling with on-call duties. You are warmly welcome to shadow us to see our operations. Since 2023, we have been working under a new and much more attractive scheduling model where the requirement for 11 hours of rest is included.

Your Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse with specialized training in surgical nursing. We welcome both experienced candidates and those new to the role of surgical nurse.

Your Competence

We are looking for someone who:

  • sees a challenge and joy in working in a completely new operation, with the opportunity to influence your work.
  • has a flexible personality, is solution-focused, and finds it easy to communicate and collaborate.
  • is positive about participating in quality and development work.

We Offer

We offer you a permanent position with salary and start date to be agreed upon. A probationary period may apply.

With us, you will find a stimulating work environment where we place great emphasis on quality and competence development for both you and the organization. You will also receive an individually tailored introduction based on your previous experience. We work with mentor-based onboarding where you, as a new employee, are assigned two mentors during the onboarding period. The introduction material is designed, among other things, as a checklist that you will work through step by step with your mentors.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
