Birka Folk High School is beautifully located by the shores of Lake Storsjö, 9 km outside Östersund. The school offers several long programs, short courses, and conference activities. Our mission is guided both by the government's intentions for folk high schools and by directives from our principal, Region Jämtland/Härjedalen.

The general course at a folk high school is a study path that corresponds to upper secondary school and provides the opportunity to supplement or achieve eligibility for further studies. Teaching is based on the participants' experiences, interests, and goals. The instruction is characterized by dialogue, participation, and collaborative learning. The course also aims at personal development and social engagement. The teacher's role is therefore to create meaningful learning processes and contribute to an inclusive learning environment. Assessment is carried out through a comprehensive study assessment process, which allows for a holistic view of the participant's development. The work within the teaching team is based on collaboration, reflection, and pedagogical creativity. The general course is a central part of the folk high school's democratic and educational mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role includes teaching adult participants in various subjects at the upper secondary level, grounded in the pedagogical ideas of folk high schools. Together with the teaching team and participants, plan and implement instruction, joint activities, and school-wide work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal requirements and merits:

We are primarily looking for a person with subject competencies in Swedish/Swedish as a second language, preferably in combination with social studies subjects. Other subject combinations are possible.

Experience in pedagogical work within folk high schools or other educational forms.

Personal competencies:
