About the American High School, Uppsala

The school is centrally located in the Luthagen area. The school is now in its fourth academic year and has approximately 260 students studying in the Natural Sciences, Economics, or Social Sciences programs. Teaching is conducted in both English and Swedish by a competent teaching staff with a strong sense of community.

About the Position

As a study and career counselor, you will work with individual coaching and guidance for our students. You will manage the enrollment of new students, follow up on our school queue, and maintain contact with new students and guardians. You will be responsible for the continuous follow-up of students' graduation forecasts in each grade, monitor individual study plans, handle reporting to CSN, and manage other tasks included in the SYV assignment. You will also work closely with the school's student health team in preventive and promoting work. The EHT includes a school nurse, counselor, special educator, and deputy principal.

In addition to your duties as SYV, you will also provide administrative support to the organization and assist our teachers in various ways. Your responsibilities will also include substituting for lessons when necessary, where materials are prepared by the regular teacher.

In this position, you will work daily in various administrative systems such as Admentum, StudyBee, and Google Drive. As a study and career counselor, you will primarily work from the front desk where you will have most of your conversations with students. You will also have access to a back office for certain administrative tasks. You will communicate daily in both Swedish and English.

The position is a permanent employment of 50-100%, with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone who is a qualified study and career counselor, with a degree, and preferably someone who also has at least a couple of years of experience working as a study and career counselor. It is also an advantage if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in coaching and guiding students, as well as experience working closely with the student health team. You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, and you possess strong digital competence.

You have a professional approach in your interactions with students, colleagues, and guardians and a good understanding of people's varying circumstances. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented, unpretentious, and flexible. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You maintain an overall positive attitude.
