The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department, with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year. More information about us can be found on the Department of Information Technology's website. We are now looking for students who wish to work as teaching assistants (amanuenses) for Period 1 and Period 2.
Responsibilities
Participation in the teaching of one or more of the courses listed below. Participation in teaching includes, for example, attending laboratory sessions and lectures, grading assignments, answering students' questions, and supervising student projects. Courses marked SVE are taught in Swedish, and those marked ENG are taught in English. Applications are received via Uppsala University's recruitment system. If you have not previously worked as a teaching assistant, the responsibilities also include a mandatory introduction day.
Qualification Requirements
Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5. Only those admitted to education at the first or second cycle level may be employed as a teaching assistant (HEO Ch. 5 §10). The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the area of the course they will assist with, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish (only for courses taught in Swedish) and English in both speech and writing.
Desirable/Meritorious Qualifications
Previous experience of participating in teaching on relevant courses at the university level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) is desirable, as is a good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization.
Application Procedure
The application must include a letter where the applicant briefly describes their experience in teaching, language skills, and knowledge (e.g., transcripts). The application must also specify which courses the applicant is interested in and an estimate of the number of hours they wish to work (per course and period, where the total number of hours must sum to 30, 45, 60, 90, or 120). Please also attach your registration certificate.
About the Employment
The employment is fixed-term, until November 15, 2026, or January 31, 2027, depending on the period(s) worked, according to HEO Ch. 5 § 12. The extent is between 3% and 23%. Start date: August 17, 2026, or October 19, 2026, depending on the period(s) worked, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
