The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third-largest department, with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year. More information about us can be found on the Department of Information Technology's website.
The Department of Information Technology is now seeking up to 15 teaching assistants (amanuenses) for the course Introduction to Computers.
Responsibilities
Participate in teaching within the framework of Introduction to Computers, which is part of the introductory courses for several programs in autumn 2026. Participation in teaching includes, for example, tutoring in computer labs, answering student questions, and grading assignments. Please note that all tutoring is planned to be conducted on campus.
Qualification Requirements
To be employed as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to a program at the first or second cycle level. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance. The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the subject area of the course they will assist with, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish (only for courses taught in Swedish) and English, both spoken and written.
Desirable/Additional Merits
Previous experience of participating in teaching on relevant courses at the university level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) is desirable, as is good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization. Strongly meritorious is previous experience as a teaching assistant for Introduction to Computers.
It is also strongly meritorious to:
- have completed the majority of the first year of your study program.
- be interested in constructively helping others understand things they perceive as unclear or difficult.
- have good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.
- be punctual regarding tutoring and grading of submitted assignments.
Application Procedure
The application must include a letter stating which campus you study at (Uppsala or Gotland), the applicant's previous experience in teaching, language, and knowledge (e.g., transcripts). The application must also specify how the applicant meets the job profile for a teaching assistant. A registration certificate must also be attached to the application.
About the Employment
The employment is temporary according to Chapter 5, Section 12 of the Higher Education Ordinance, until November 15, 2026. The scope is 6%. Start date: August 17, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
