Are you a nursing assistant with an interest in surgery and want to develop in a safe, structured, and pleasant work environment? We are now looking for nursing assistants for day and evening shifts in department 15 at Falu Hospital, Dahlska House.

The surgical clinic consists of three outpatient clinics and three inpatient wards. We work in interdisciplinary teams with doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, dietitians, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists to create an efficient care flow. You will receive a secure introduction, a supportive work climate, and access to weekly lectures on topics such as patient cases, surgeries, and nursing.

We care for patients in endocrinology, vascular, urology, breast, and plastic surgery, both pre- and post-operatively, including acutely ill patients. The department has 21 beds and is open around the clock. Work is done in two shifts (day, evening, and weekend), two out of five weekends, with individual schedule planning (wish schedule).

As a nursing assistant, you are an important piece of our goal to provide high-quality care with a focus on patient safety and maintaining a good work environment.

You will handle various drains, urinary catheters, measure vital parameters, perform NEWS checks, neurological checks, head injury monitoring checks, and pancreatitis checks. As a nursing assistant, you will work closely with patients with a strong focus on basic care, for example:

• supporting patients with ADL
• meeting nutritional needs, mobilization, sample collection, and wound dressings
• preventing the spread of infection through basic hygiene routines and dress codes
• preventing pressure sores and falls,
• venipuncture
• documentation in the Cosmic patient journal

Requirements:

• Trained nursing assistant who has completed the Health and Care program or the vocational package Health and Care in adult education
• Diploma from the Health and Care College

Meritorious:

• Experience in healthcare/current department/surgical care/inpatient care
• Specialization in Emergency Care and Medicine 2, Anatomy 1 and 2, and Health and Healthcare 1 and 2

Your most important asset is your nursing competence but also your commitment to the patients of the organization and working forward in a positive spirit. You take responsibility, collaborate well in teams, and communicate trustfully with patients, relatives, and colleagues. You work in a structured manner, handle a high pace, make good priorities, and are solution-focused with the patient's best interest in mind. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Information about the job title

As of July 1, 2023, nursing assistant is a protected job title (https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/underskoterska-blir-en-skyddad-yrkestitel/). This means that you need a certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare to use the title nursing assistant in healthcare.

You can apply for the certificate from July 1, 2023. If you do not have a certificate, you can continue to work in healthcare but with a different title than nursing assistant. For those offered a job with us in Region Dalarna after July 1, the title in your employment contract will be Care Assistant until you can present your certificate. If you had a permanent position with the title nursing assistant when the new regulations came into effect on July 1, 2023, you can continue to use the title nursing assistant for 10 years. You can retain the title even if you change workplaces/employers after July 1. After that, you will need a certificate of protected job title to use the title nursing assistant.
