Your Responsibilities

As a unit manager, you have overall responsibility for the new environmental and health protection unit. You will play a key role in building the operations from the ground up while leading daily work and developing methods that make a difference:

• Lead, develop, and coordinate the environmental and health protection unit's operations within Haninge municipality
• Ensure that the authority's assignments are carried out according to applicable legal requirements while providing advice and guidance
• Be responsible for budget, personnel, and operations, and create a work environment that promotes engagement and participation
• Ensure legally secure and effective authority exercise and lead the unit towards established goals with the authority to make decisions within the framework of legislation, policies, and delegation
• Recruit and build your future team
• Contribute to good public health and a sustainable environment through advice, information, and preventive measures
• Collaborate internally within the urban planning department and with other municipal operations as well as externally with the county administrative board and other authorities
• Be part of the management team and contribute strategically to the department's development

Worth Knowing

The new environmental and health protection unit will start on July 1, 2026, and will be part of a newly established department together with building permits and mapping and land surveying. You will report to the department head and will have two directly reporting group leaders. The unit is responsible for supervision and control within environmental protection, health protection, food safety, individual sewage systems, as well as alcohol and tobacco. The position is located in Haninge municipal building, a stone's throw from Handen commuter train station.

Our Expectations

We are looking for someone with relevant academic education, for example, in environmental science, environmental and health protection, natural sciences, chemistry, biology, agronomy, or food technology, or other education deemed equivalent. You have at least three years of experience as a manager with personnel responsibility and experience in authority exercise as well as development and change work. You have a good understanding of working in a politically governed organization and the role of supervision in the community building process.

As a person, you have very good communication skills in Swedish, both orally and in writing. You are an engaging leader who motivates and creates participation in the team. You are strategic, able to translate goals into concrete results, and have a good ability to balance legally secure authority exercise with service and dialogue. Furthermore, you have a collaborative working style and experience in collaborating both internally and externally. You are confident in making decisions, prioritizing, and driving operations forward towards set goals.
