GIS Coordinator at the County Administrative Board of Uppsala

Do you want to work as a GIS Coordinator and help develop and coordinate GIS for the county administrative boards collectively and at the County Administrative Board of Uppsala?

We are looking for a GIS Coordinator who wants to work 70 percent as a GIS Coordinator for the county administrative boards collectively (nationally) within urban planning and 30 percent with support and development for GIS at the County Administrative Board of Uppsala (regionally).

The position is located at the County Administrative Board of Uppsala at the communications and staff unit in the department for operational support. Currently, there are 10 people in the unit working with communication, management support, and GIS, two of whom are GIS Coordinators.

The County Administrative Board is an exciting workplace, and there are also benefits such as flexible working hours, wellness grants, wellness hours, and extended parental leave. In 2026, we will move to new premises centrally in Uppsala.

Responsibilities

In the work for Sweden's 21 county administrative boards, it is about contributing to national coordination to create common working methods and IT support. In the area of urban planning, the common GIS environment is used to manage geodata within the subject area and to create operationally adapted systems and services to support the county planners. Your role also includes participating in internal GIS coordination and engaging in regional and national networks with other county administrative boards and external stakeholders. Your task, both in the national and regional coordination role, is to be a contact point between the operations and GIS IT.

As a GIS Coordinator, you support the county administrative board's subject matter experts with specialist knowledge in GIS. Together with other GIS Coordinators, you facilitate and develop the use of GIS in our operations.

The work includes technical management of geodata, information management of geodata, support, and training. The primary tools are the ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal programs. There may also be analysis work included in your tasks.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role, we see that you have experience in GIS work, preferably in the public sector. You have a university degree in GIS or equivalent experience.

In addition to a strong interest in societal issues, you also have high digital competence and are accustomed to working with commonly used platforms and tools in the profession. You are fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written. You recognize the benefits of structured information management and accessibility of relevant data.

It is an advantage if you have education in urban planning as well as knowledge or experience of the county administrative boards' GIS environment and related systems. Knowledge or experience in project management, relational databases, FME, information classification, metadata management, or programming in Python is also meritorious.

As a person, you are solution-oriented, structured, take initiative, and have good collaboration skills. You have the ability to independently drive issues forward, keep your promises, and get things done.

You represent the County Administrative Board in a trustworthy manner. We place great importance on your personal qualities.

Conditions

The employment is permanent and begins with a six-month probationary period with the start date as soon as possible or by agreement. Your job title at the authority will be case officer.

Security clearance with a background check will be conducted according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) before a decision on employment is made. In some cases, Swedish citizenship is required.

We work to ensure that national goals are implemented and coordinate various societal interests while promoting collaboration between different actors in the county. We provide grants and support to various activities and ensure that laws and guidelines are followed.
