Deputy Chief of Staff at the Operations Unit Staff

Are you interested in leading and optimizing planning, execution, and follow-up while working on both long-term and short-term issues? If so, the position of Deputy Chief of Staff (Stf) at the Operations Unit (DriftE) staff in the Swedish Armed Forces' telecommunications and information systems unit (FMTIS) is for you. The position can be performed from two locations: Bålsta or Arboga. Travel to other locations may occur as part of the job.

The FMTIS mission within and outside the Armed Forces involves rapid changes in pace. The Operations Unit is one of the largest units of the force, with operations occurring around the clock, year-round. The Operations Unit's mission includes both production and operational-related activities. The DriftE Staff is directly subordinate to the Chief of DriftE. The functions of the staff largely reflect the unit's staff organization, which means that the department supports both unit management and the unit's other departments. This includes preparation, coordination, and follow-up of assignments and tasks from the unit and force commander. The staff has civilian and military positions at several locations.

As the Deputy Chief of Staff DriftE, you share personnel and operational responsibility with the Chief of Staff. The position also includes concrete planning and preparation tasks.

Main Responsibilities

As the Deputy Chief of Staff within the department, your primary task is to lead and develop the department together with the Chief of Staff. You will have indirect personnel and work environment responsibility and be responsible for leading the department in collaboration with the Chief of Staff.

Your tasks include:

  • Prepared to take responsibility and lead operations within the department such as:
  • Some personnel management responsibility
  • Responsible for orders and corresponding meetings at the unit level
  • Lead planning, execution, and follow-up of tasks in the short and long term
  • Act as Chief of Staff
  • Contribute to the unit's development
  • Challenge and inspire employees to be creative and work on continuous improvements, both big and small
  • Collaborate within and outside the department regarding the operations for which the department is responsible
  • Participate in the unit's war unit development
  • Lead and/or participate in the department's work and project groups
  • Support in preparing the unit's incoming tasks

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in staff work or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education or documented knowledge deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Class B driver's license for manual vehicles

Personal Qualities

To succeed in your role, you have a very good ability to see the big picture and connections. You have a responsive and unpretentious leadership style and find it easy to express your opinions clearly and pedagogically. You are meticulous and structured with great initiative and flexibility, capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. You have good administrative skills and find it easy to communicate, lead, and drive meetings and work. You will work both independently and in a team. As an employee in the Armed Forces, you must have security and confidentiality awareness and good judgment.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience with the case management system VIDAR
  • Experience in development work within war units and unit production
  • Experience working in the Armed Forces
  • Completed military training and/or experience

Other

Employment type: permanent full-time position. A six-month probationary period may be applied. Start date: by agreement.

Work location: Bålsta or Arboga. The position is advertised in both locations but refers to only one position.
