University Lecturer in Occupational Therapy

The Department of Occupational Therapy has an educational mission for professional degrees and bachelor's degrees in occupational therapy. The program is conducted through course-based studies over three years, where the first year consists of studies in activity science and anatomy and physiology. The second year focuses on the occupational therapy process in various fields of practice, along with associated medical subjects. The main focus of the third year is on research methodology, bachelor's thesis, innovation, and pedagogy in occupational therapy, concluding with a course in leadership. Practical training takes place over a total of 21 weeks, most of which are scheduled during the second and third years.
The department also offers independent advanced-level courses in occupational therapy and can award a master's degree in occupational therapy.
The Department of Occupational Therapy (https://www.gu.se/studera/hitta-utbildning/arbetsterapeutprogrammet-v1art (https://www.gu.se/studera/hitta-utbildning/arbetsterapeutprogrammet-v1art)) has a creative research environment and extensive collaboration with interdisciplinary research groups nationally and internationally. The research focuses on the relationship between daily activities and health throughout the lifespan, from children to older adults. Research groups based at the department include FRESH, focusing on the health of older adults, TIDAS, focusing on methods to early identify, treat, and support individuals to maintain their ability to work and reduce their need for sick leave, and ProDo, focusing on opportunities and barriers in doing for children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities due to neurological issues. The department and research groups have PhD students, junior and senior researchers with a broad expertise that includes knowledge of activity, health, and social sciences, as well as the ability to conduct qualitative research, epidemiological studies, intervention studies, and instrument development.

Subject Description
Occupational therapy is based on activity science, which encompasses knowledge of and studies of humans in activity and doing, their ability to use their time and environment, both physical and social and cultural. Furthermore, activity science encompasses knowledge of human engagement, will, and ability to have and take control over their lives in the society they live in. The subject also includes knowledge of habits, life patterns, and the significance of the environment for activity. Based on the complex meaning of people's doing and activity in everyday life, occupational therapy connects to human sciences, medical, natural sciences, social sciences, and technological knowledge areas.
Job Responsibilities
The position includes education, course administration, and research.
The educational environment has a strong focus on student-centered learning, and the main tasks consist of theoretical and practical teaching of students in occupational therapy at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, where the applicant's professional experience should be applied in relevant teaching situations. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English. Course administration includes course planning, examinations, course plan work, as well as administration and use of associated digital systems.
The position also includes conducting research, actively seeking external funding, and contributing to the development of the field of occupational therapy/activity science.

Employment
The position is a temporary vacancy for six months with a possible extension part-time (50%) currently placed at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date is February 1, 2026, or by agreement.
