Project Description
Research Subject: Fiber and Polymer Science
ENDURE is seeking a PhD candidate for the project "Sustainable Polymer Barriers for Cast Cellulose-Based Fiber Products".
To achieve the goals of the European growth model, the cast fiber products (MFP) industry requires a new generation of interdisciplinary engineers with expertise in natural fiber material technology, product design, production technology, and digital manufacturing/Industry 4.0. This project (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101227649) is a new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network consisting of 12 PhD candidates and brings together 5 universities, 2 research institutes, and 8 industry partners from four countries. The project is funded by the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).
The PhD candidate will be placed at KTH and the industry partner Yangi AB, gaining unique skills to lead scientific and technical development within the European packaging industry.
The barrier project aims to synthesize, integrate, and apply high-performance barrier layers to be used in fiber-based packaging, as well as to understand and model structure and properties during synthesis, lamination, use, and recycling. The PhD candidate will gain experience in both fundamental research and industrial application.
Supervision: Professor Ulrica Edlund (main supervisor). Co-supervisors: Professor Artem Kulachenko (SCI, KTH) and Dr. Mårten Alkhagen (Yangi AB) are proposed to supervise the PhD candidate. Decisions will be made upon admission.
