Physical Planner for the Swedish Armed Forces

Do you want to combine your expertise in physical planning, your interest in the military aspects of total defense, and contribute to our organization? The Swedish Armed Forces is in an expansion phase and on a significant growth journey. Therefore, we are strengthening the organization for physical planning by recruiting to the staff in the Central Military Region (MR M).

Main Responsibilities

As a physical planner within a military region, your main task is to respond to referrals regarding community building issues, as well as participate in collaboration regarding physical planning at local and regional levels. In the preparation of cases, you will collaborate both internally within the Swedish Armed Forces and with external actors, such as county administrative boards and municipalities. Examples of cases you will prepare include building permits, detailed plans, road plans, area protection, and comprehensive plans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing referrals primarily from municipalities, county administrative boards, and other actors within community building.
  • As the representative of the Swedish Armed Forces at the regional level, participate in coordinated municipal and state planning work, e.g., comprehensive planning.
  • Participate and support the function's work with national interests and physical planning. This includes participating in method development and revision of national interests for the military part of total defense.
  • The work also includes supporting the Military Region Staff with expertise in physical planning within the framework of defense planning and participating in the staff's activities.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • At least a three-year university or college degree (physical planning, urban planning, environmental science, or equivalent education deemed equivalent by the employer).
  • Good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act (2010:900), the Environmental Code (1998:808), the Road Act (1971:948), the Electricity Act (1997:857), and/or other related legislation, as well as its application.
  • A well-developed communicative ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
  • Knowledge of handling information in the form of maps and text documents.
  • Driver's license B.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience working with urban planning, area protection, infrastructure within an authority or municipality.
  • Experience working in the Swedish Armed Forces or another total defense authority.
  • Completed basic military training or been active within the Swedish Armed Forces' volunteer organizations.
  • Good knowledge of the work/organization/assignments of the Swedish Armed Forces and total defense authorities.
  • Experience working with national interests.
  • Experience with GIS.
  • Experience handling information that is subject to confidentiality.

Employment type: Permanent employment, a six-month probationary period applies if you are not currently working in the Swedish Armed Forces. The position is civilian.
Work location: Livgardet/Kungsängen (travel within Sweden may occur in the service).
Employment rate: Full-time.
Start date: By agreement.

Information about the Swedish Armed Forces and the recruiting unit:

The Central Military Region (MR M) is a war unit and an organizational unit where the Chief and Staff are located in Kungsängen. The organization consists of a Chief with staff, six training groups for training and support of the Home Guard, and about 7000 Home Guard soldiers organized into eleven battalions and several independent units.

The Chief of the Central Military Region with the regional staff leads subordinate units, collaborates with regional and local actors, leads security and intelligence services, and supports operational and tactical leaders who solve tasks within the region. The region also serves as a link between the Swedish Armed Forces and civil society, has active cooperation with the county administrative board and region. If necessary, MR M also leads operations, for example, during national crisis situations and support to society. The military region solves tasks in peace, crisis, and war.

The organization and operational area of the Central Military Region encompass the geographical counties of Stockholm, Uppsala, Södermanland, Västmanland, Dalarna, and Gävleborg. Training groups and the Home Guard are present in each county.
